Thinking about getting my fourth grader Lord of the Flies for her birthday?

I know that it is a more advanced book for high schoolers (I haven't read it myself) but I read the back cover and it seems like something she would like, she is a very advanced reader for her age. Is it a good idea? She really liked the Harry Potter series and Lord of the Rings, as well.

The only thing with Lord of the Flies is that it is a very thematically intense book. Not that I am saying that your daughter couldn't handle it. I understand that you mentioned she is an advanced reader, but it still feels to me like Lord of the Flies might be too intense of a book for an elementary schooler. I mean it's about young boys going wild and turning on one another. I would recommend reading it yourself first and seeing what you think as a parent. That way, if you do decide it's appropriate and buy it for her, you could discuss the book's themes with her.

I wouldn't. It's not that pleasant of a read. It is a good book, but it's usually required in school and needs to be understood to be enjoyed.

How about A Winkle in Time and its series? People sometimes forget how good they are.

I really think she would like the "His Dark Materials" series. Its a trilogy, featuring the golden compass, the subtle knife and the amber spyglass." They are very good indeed, and will keep her captivated

While it is a great book, it is quite challenging. Perhaps you can check it out of the library for her instead and you could read it first.
