iMovie question, please help?

I have a lot of movies on iMovie that I eventually export with Quick Time. They're taking up a lot of space on my hard drive, so I was wondering: If the events are still there, and the movies are in Quick Time, is there any reason to keep the projects? I will save more space if I delete those, right?

Please let me know if it wastes space to keep both the projects in iMovie and the exported movies. (Two of the same thing.)

The project is only good if you intend to render it again, or make changes to the video easily. Project files are actually very small compared to video files (and the higher the quality, the larger the file). Most people who are serious about editing videos keep an external drive on hand so as to keep their machine from filling up. Depending on how many you have, I'd recommend about 500Gb - 1Tb of space to start you off.
