Where can I view FREE online the Social Security Death Index?
Most sites claim to be free but when you go to look at the record, they want to sell you a subscription to their service. I need to view the SSN for genealogical purposes
Sorry none of the first four answers worked. Also, the fourth answer from the Genealogical researcher for 40+ years? The SS site itself has no Death index link

You can go to the public library and access the Social Security death index on Ancestry.com for free there.

The most commonly used one recently changed over to a paid site, ancestry.com. Family Search still has their free SSDI, but it doesn't give much detail.
If the link doesn't work Google Family Search. I use it all the time.
Click "Search"
Click "Search historical records"
Type in the first and last name of the person you are searching for.
Scroll down and select "collections" selecting "birth, marriage and death"
Select "United States Social Security Death Index"
If that isn't an option, the name isn't in their index.

"Sorry none of the first four answers worked." Sure they work, you mean you can't find what you want, but familysearch is free as is genealogybank free and both have what you asked for which was "Where can I view FREE online the Social Security Death Index?" and you got it

SSA enacted new privacy regulations and Rootsweb no longer has the SSDI because they were required to purge the SSN numbers from deaths index listed back 10 years. Ancestry.com did the purge so they still have the SSDI. Last I looked FamiySearch still had SSNs on their SSDI but just recently they have updated their website so they too may no longer have SSNs.
SSA no longer sells the database with SSNs for persons recently died and back 10 years.
So if you are looking for the SSN of someone who died in the last 10 years on the SSDI you are too late. Even the pay sites will not have the numbers any longer.

I just tried https://webmd.im/verispy last year to see if I could Locate my birth-father. My bio father left me when I was 7, and has refused to be a part of my life since. I grew up with my bio Mother and Step-father. I have only ever talked to my biological father a couple times until now. All I knew of him personally when I conducted the search was his first name, last name, and the street address of a previous address he used to have.
When the search results came back based on the minimal info I had, It pulled up a recent address along with even a phone number. When I called the phone no., I heard the voice of what sounded like it may be my step-brother. I asked if Joseph(my biological dad) was there, and he said no but to try back after 5.
I haven't done anything with the info, But I found what I was wanting to have.

You can find an up-to-date copy of the social security death index at www.familysearch.org. I am a genealogist and I use this quite often and it IS totally free.

Get ALL the ANYONE information You need Now! - http://fullbackgroundcheck.info/everify-81.html
The absolutely free reverse phone lookup sites generally provide the most basic of information such as name and it works only for landlines. To get further information, money will have to be paid. The free searches do not provide much more than what can be found through the phone book or personal knowledge and they only want your email to send spam.
Stay away from shady reverse phone lookup sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse phone lookup site like http://fullbackgroundcheck.info/everify-81.html that has been around since 1999.
If I recall correctly they have two options:
1. $19 and you get only one report.
2. $39 and you get unlimited reports. I went with this option because I wanted to verify more numbers. This is how I caught my girlfriend cheating, I got the name, other phone number, address history, relatives, and criminal-court records.
