MY RHUBARB IS BLOOMING..should I leave this stalk..or cut it off?
last year I cut it off and it seemed to cause the growth of the plant to stop...What is the correct way to handle this?
I only use compost to feed it..and it's healthy as all get out but if I cut that bloom it seems like it starts to fade out quickly. So maybe I should just let it bloom this year..thanks for your answers..and happy gardening.

I always cut the stalk off of mine. They die in the middle where the stalk was, but send up new shoots from the surrounding roots and start producing again.
Rhubarb has a thick tuber like roots that are very poor at absorbing water. If yours is producing poorly, try to give it more water.

Let it bloom. If it is blooming then it is done for the year. Are you fertilizing it or is it near the lawn you fertilize? If you fertilize a lot it will make it bloom quicker. Spread compost around it early in season and that should be enough.
