Do christians believe the jewish star is an idol?

If it is looked at while praying or kissed while thinking of a god or worn as a sign/symbol of faith...... how are symbols and idols different if a symbol is a visible representation of a god.

Update:

I didn't realize that the star represented Israel and not the jewish faith. I wonder how many people who wear it are not jewish?

What is in English called "The Star of David"

Is in Hebrew called Magen David ("Shield of David")

David used the metaphor "shield of David" in one of his Psalms to refer to God.

    However --

the image itself is not properly a religious symbol at all -- it is a Heraldic symbol of the family of David and in modern times (well, for the past about 120 years) the Jewish nation as a whole.

There are Anglo-American Christians who make the unfounded claim that the Jews worship the star as an idol (Khemosh, if I'm not mistaken)

    Ironicaly --

Jewish religious books in many places condemn "star worshipers"

and throughout the middle ages anti-Jewish Christian institutions burned Jewish books based on the allegation that "star worshiper" was a veiled reference to Christians.

Your question s based on a false premise. The Shield of David symbol is a modern secular symbol representing the Nation of Israel, it is not a religious symbol.

Matt, you're right---Jesus was once Jew or Hebrew with the aid of ancestry or race. He used to be also Jew through devout beliefs. Primary obstacle, the Jews of Jesus' time rejected him and his new covenant. He didn't change the Jewish faith he founded a new church headquartered upon the new covenant. It was no longer his desire to put off the existing Jewish religion, however to convey it up to the moment with the new covenant. He was the Messiah promise of God and fulfills over 300 prophecies but they still rejected him. That used to be prophecy in Malachi. The curtain of the temple was once hire(torn) top to backside permitting anybody to come back into the presence of God shielded best by way of Jesus' blood. Before most effective the high priest was permit in the holy of holys. You and that i are likely Gentile. We didn't pick to be but that's the means it is. We will choose, however, to comply with Jesus and worship him in his new church and accept the new covenant. I've and hope you may have.

When the pagans had idols they believed their god was inside the idol.

Destroy the idol the god was dead.

When Jews and Christians wear signs like the star of David and the cross and kiss them its a reminder of God, just like you have pictures in your wallet and computer. There is nothing wrong with holy reminders any more than family pictures. *and yeah I seen my grandmother kiss pictures of people she loved so it does happen.

We are not worshiping the actual symbol. We are worshiping the God behind the symbol. I don't believe my cross necklace will answer my prayers or do anything besides represent my faith.

If any symbol is used to pray to or through or to bow down before, held in any form of esteem....then yes, it is an idol............>
