Ignition coil question: 2000 toyota camry le?

Got all 3 changed 2 years ago. Last week got some codes p1130, 0171. Mechanic said coils must be bad. Opinions please.

Thanks people

Update:

My car has only 3 coils not 6. My question is if I replaced them 2 years ago, is it possible they got bad or mechanic has wrong diagnostic?

respect, neither engine offered on this have coils on a bar/strip set up. each coil can and should be tested and replaced separately.

    to the OP, respectfully,

judging by your post, you have the 1MZ-FE V6 engine. you have six coils with ignitors. one atop each plug. 3 on the #1 bank closest to you as you're looking in the bay. and 3 on the other bank that you can't see. it's closest to the fire wall and the intake runners cover that bank up.

    ---------

P0171 is System too Lean (Bank 1)

    P1130 is A/F Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Malfunction

(Bank 1 Sensor 1) (Only for Calif.)

all relative to bank #1 which is the one you can see.

those codes do not directly point to any coils being bad.

matter of fact, there are specific codes for the coils if they were bad. and those should be ohms tested. no guessing.

you need to take this to a reputable ASE shop or the dealer for diagnosis. from what you say, mechanics are guessing. they need to do some testing. maybe an issue with fuel delivery to bank #1. or un-metered air is getting into that bank. head gasket or intake leak. but it needs more testing to know for sure.

if this engine has VVT or VVT-I (should say on engine cover) i'd go to the dealer.

FYI the other engine offered on this platform is the 5S-FE I4. it has two coils. and you prolly couldn't see 'em.

The two codes has to do with oxygen sensor, not ignition coil.Get a mechanic that knows what he is doing.

If it is a four cylinder then you replace all four. If it is a six, you replace all six. You don't replace the ones that are bad, you replace ALL of them.
