Time to get from nothing to the moon?

Heres an interesting hypothetical question.

Say you have just a man and a woman (each about 25 years old). The Earth is how it was about 5,000 years ago (before advanced civilizations). These two people are the only two humans on earth and their are no other people or civilizations. There are, however, other animals. How long would it take this man and woman to send a manned spacecraft to the moon. Im talking about these two using their resources (an earth full of resources) to make tools and more and more tools until they can make a manned spacecraft. This would probably take many generations of people to get to that level of technology.

The way that these two people know how to do this is that they are allowed 24 hours to study (in todays world with internet and stuff) how to make a spacecraft and all the technology necessary. They will understand that that reaching the moon is the primary goal of the civilization that they will create is to get to the moon (assuming they dont accomplish it in their lifetimes).

So the actual question here is how long would it take until their civilization had a person set foot on the moon.

    hmm that is a hard question

    however i would say that no matter what may happen it would most likly still take 4 thousand years at the very least

    this is for a few reasons

    1. they only have 24 hours to study how to make it and no one could in that time learn and memorize how to make a space ship able to reach the moon

    2. they would still have to learn the basics of eletricity and other basics in life

    3. they have no man power besides them selves and therefore getting all the resources to make it is impossible

    4. there are many machines needed to make the space ships that arre needed or else the space ship will not work for example they need to make the space ship air tight and it is impossible to do that when they only have hammers and stuff

    5. when they die all the learnt would go with them

    6. they need to find ways to get the resources

    all up there are hundreds of other reasons why it would take ages for them to get that far and in reality even if it was there goal in life for every single person they may have only gotten there a few hundreds years before we did

    because while when the 2 origanal people were alive they may have had some ideas of how to build it as the years went by and people died it would have been lost and become nothing more then a myth

    The biggest problem with this question is that it presumes that the progress towards the goal will be linear, and will not suffer any significant diversions.

    As history well shows, neither assumption is close to being possible. Progress is not linear, and one example would be close to a 1,000 years of European civilisation just coming to a technological dead stop.

    There's also issues of birth rates, the ability of the ongoing civilisation to feed and support it's population, and such an ability to grow and stay at a level where there is a significant amount of resources beyond basic survival needs.

    Then, throw in ideologies that promote views where such progress is viewed as being Really Bad, and that will further complicate things, and make a linear line of progress that much unlikely.

    It would take more than twenty-four hours to reach that level of knowledge and there are some things which can only be achieved by experience, often shared experience with people who have been doing it for longer than you. However, something that might be done:

    Hydrogen can be extracted using metal in acid. The ideal metals would be native, so no refining would be needed, and these are gold, silver and mercury on the whole. Hydrochloric acid could be harvested from animals' stomachs using sea sponges on the end of twine made from plant fibres. The hydrogen liberated could then be collected in tanned animal stomachs and used for lift. A pinhole camera can be made from a large egg or coconut shell, launched on the makeshift balloon and ultimately reach a height of about 50 km. Paper soaked in chemicals could act as a photographic medium. All of that could easily be done in a year. Launching themselves via balloon using animal skins for insulation would enable them to get to a certain height - initially a hot air balloon or pedal-powered hot air blimp up to a height of maybe four miles with acclimitisation.

    Oxygen can be gathered from algae but that would take a long time. What would be easier would be to take silver and copper, place it in vinegar made from some kind of fruit juice and construct a battery with wads of paper between them. I have done this. Wires from the battery would need to be made using fire to melt them and oxygen and hydrogen could then be collected in vessels from electrodes in acidified water (probably oxalic acid from sorrel). A lightweight chamber then needs to be insulated and airtight, with a window - wool can be used for insulation but a high degree of precision would be needed for sealing against a vacuum. This would enable the construction of a balloon able to carry people up to the top of the stratosphere.

    The next stage would be the "famous" rockeballoonannon - a combined rocket, balloon and cannon. A balloon carries the payload high in the atmosphere, then a cannon, which is part of the payload, then shoots a smaller package higher, which on reaching its maximum height, then fires rocket engines. Several teams are currently working on this right now as part of the N-Prize Project, one of which is called Team Prometheus if you're interested. However, we think that all we're likely to be able to achieve is a small camera in low-Earth orbit.

    So to cut a long story short, i don't know but it's an interesting question. I haven't addressed the radiation problem. A one-way trip has been possible since at least the early '60s though. Sadly, it may now have become impossible due to de-skilling.

    As you're starting with only one man and one woman presumably with the intention that their descendents will one day travel to the Moon then the answer is that it will never happen. Continual incestuous interbreeding between descendants of just one couple will result in such an accumulation of birth defects, spontaneous abortions and mental and physical abnormalities that the population is likely to die out long before they got to building a rowing boat, let alone a spacecraft.

    This is just one of many reasons why the bible story of "Adam and Eve" is sheer nonsense.
