what is the right fitting to connect copper pipe to my water meter?

I'm pretty sure the water meter is one inch MIP male. I'm replacing my galvanized pipe with copper. I thought I needed one of those brass fittings with the nylon barrier to prevent corrosion but the home depot 'guru' said I can just use a regular copper threaded fitting. Whats the right answer?

Use the regular copper threaded fitting. Most homes are connected to the water meter with 3/4" fittings. Water meters are usually made from lead-free bronze alloy - so copper will be fine.

The yard line may be 3/4" or 1". Either way you will need a female adapter, then solder that to the copper. The brass nipple screwed into the female adapter is supposed to have the nut for the meter slid onto it before it gets soldered. Don't forget the RectorSeal #5

Depends on your code. I'm used to a 3/4" connection and we run PVC from the meter to the house. The home depot guy should be more familiar with the local code. You don't want the city to make you rip it out
