What do Italians think of Black Americans speaking Italian?

Why would your skin color make any difference? People will see you just as any other tourist who's doing their best to speak Italian. And that's a good thing, Italians love it when tourists try and speak Italian, even if it's just a few words like 'Buon giorno', 'Grazie' or 'Scusi'. Locals will immediately be more friendly and helpful towards you, you are not being offensive, you are being respectful :)

Italians love it when foreigners take the time and effort to learn their language, I speak Italian and I'm from South Africa, and you will not feel out of place, plenty of black people living in Italy speak Italian, not fluently but good enough.

LOL i'm a "living-in-italy" italian and honestly i can tell you that you're imagining problems that do not exist ;-)

here only SOME people over 50 years old are quite conservative, and maybe that they look at a black guy with distrust, but u have to know that there's a reason for this. in fact in italy a HUGE amount of african black men immigrate every year, and these people often commit crimes, this is the reason.

so maybe that you will be seen as an african one, just tell that you're american and you'll be fine XD

They always appreciate any attempt to speak THEIR language, instead of speaking louder in English at them, like that helps.

Why would Italians think any differently of Blacks speaking their language than Whites? And why would they think it offensive? Chances are they'd be perfectly fine with it.

What difference would your race make? People in Italy generally appreciate you making the effort to speak their language.

To italians black people speakin italian it' s normal and it is really appreciated. No one cares about your colorskin or race.
