Why are there not many Helplines in India?
So I'm a 17 yr old girl and I have live in the UK and I have had a lot of problems with my abusive parents in the past and I found it really helpful to go to websites like Childline. I recently visited India and I found it really disturbing that there are not really any such services in India for anyone not just children, especially women as in India, its looking really bad at the moment. Bcos most people there maybe very scared to pick up the phone so maybe there should be less intimidating ways of getting help like they have in the UK.
I understand that the situation in India is quite different from that in the UK but I still think that there should be new ways for anyone to get help for free no matter if they are very poor or no matter what.
Do you know, if nothing changes, when I'm fully grown up, I want to make a difference myself. I don't know how, by giving money or getting up close and personal or even starting a Helpline myself but I want to do something.
I have been following the news very closely and crying my eyes out about the rape cases and all, its disgusting but I want India to become a nice, loving, happy, safe place to live in. Because I love my India.

The concept of formalized charity (as opposed to informal charity) and NGOs is still quite new in many countries, including India. It's also quite culturally unacceptable to seek help outside of your family or religion. There is also the culture of silence - it is shameful in India and many other countries to even *talk* about rape. In many countries, women who are victims of rape are arrested and thrown in jail, while their rapists walk free.
If you want things to change in India, I suggest you pursue a career in the UK that would allow you to work in charities that help vulnerable people in the UK. Become an expert - and then take your expertise to India.
