Not Returning to Active Duty after REFRAD suspense date.?
I am in the Reserves, while in reception I was sent home as a REFRAD ; although I would rather be separated from the Army, I was told that I had to be a REFRAD since I am in the Reserves. My drill sgts told me that I must come back to complete basic training and AIT however my liasion told me that I dont have to return for training if I do not wish to. Will I be considered AWOL if I do not return to basic by suspense date of my REFRAD? Is it possible for my unit to separate me ?

REFRAD = RElease FRom Active Duty
Since you are in the Reserve the Reserve owns you. Which is why the active Army REFRADed you back to your Reserve unit instead of discharging you as they would have done with an active Army Private.
It is now up to your Reserve unit to do with you what they will.

I would go back and talk to my recruiter because what you don't want is to end up AWOL. Tell him you want to he administative discarged. Easy.

how long was the process? my girl is getting refrad too she gave the letter on monday so i was wondering how long it will take after that ?
