How do they work if there is no such thing as God or demons and such?

Those things don't work.
A board game at best.

I, a Roman Catholic, believe there is a demonic influence involved, but I also believe that there is a psychological effect as well, and that the causes will vary to cause confusion.
Now the non-paranormal cause of the Ouija Board is called the ideomotor effect. First there's anticipation of something happening, then there's the subconscious thought of the answer you secretly want. You subconsciously think "Yes" answer, then your body follows that though and moves to Yes.
It's even more seemingly incredible when it is done in a group, everyone's hands are moving, which heightens the bypassing of your awareness, and you really think there's something spiritual at work.
There is a reasonable explanation for atheists to give for the Ouija Board, but that doesn't mean demons have nothing to do with it, they just won't always play, thereby allowing others to doubt and come up with atheist answers.
SO REMEMBER: IDEOMOTOR EFFECT.

So if demons exist as some people believe and they are so powerful, why do they only possess 9 year old girls or spend time scaring some fat loser guy living in Oklahoma in an old, creaky wooden house? If there's some huge, demonic plot to take over the world they are sure spending a lot of time doing a bunch of useless things.

Do you not know that they were invented and sold as a child's toy AFTER WWII?
They do not work!
When used they can be MADE to spell out something by a collective movement of those using it.
Blindfold them and very little can be spelled and if the boards is turned around nothing at all can be spelled!
so no god, no magic and just the wishful thinking of people who lack a grip on reality!

Ouija Boards are made by Hasbro... Which is a TOY COMPANY...
No one says that you open the gates of hell playing My Little Pony, so why on earth would anyone think that a board game like the Ouija Board is about demons and ghosts and magic?
People that say the Ouija Board is "Evil" or "Summons Demons" is MENTALLY ILL and is suffering from delusions...
► Delusion:

They need professional mental health treatment and shouldn't be humored.
So unless there is an Occult Section of Toys R' Us, it is just a board game.
If it comes in your choice of "Pink" or "Glow in the Dark", it isn't a "Tool of Satan".

A combination of ideomotor response and confirmation bias.

That you are pointing to such things as supporting your God claim and surrounding claims is just sad.

I'm not an atheist, but think about it, you are buying this ouija board at a Toys R Us or something. Let that sink in. They are really fake and are used by the idemotor effect or whatever it's called

I don't think Ouija boards have to do with God or demons, but ghosts and spirits. That is totally different.
Anyway, Ouija boards are fake.

Oh, yes, those Parker Brothers are nothing but a group of Satanist out to ruin family night. Have you seen how Monopoly always ends up with a family feud?
