Advice on my skating: Easy question :)?
Hi! So I'm competing for singles this year and I haven't since two years ago because I've been focusing on moves in the field and synchro.
Please watch my program:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWWeNum3oyM
This program was for my rink's spring recital, so my coach made the footwork and choreography a little easier than normal. But do you have any advice to just "look better" while skating. How does my skating look?
Thank youu!

I am just going to answer this flat out girl sorry if It's a little offensive.
Your jumps have very good height, but I agree that you should work on your landings a little bit more. Try holding your landing position for a bit longer, and also bend your knees. I find that this helps a skater look more graceful.
I also think that you could maybe speed up your skating just a tad. I'm sorry to say but you were very slow at some points in your program. If you have speed while you are jumping, you will have speed on your landing, making it easier to get a better check out position. Don't worry if you can't land your jumps too well when going at a faster pace. I have experienced the same thing because when I started to gain more speed while I jumped, I would often times rush the jump and miss it. It is important while even trying to go faster that you take your time setting the jump up.
Also on speed; Make sure you bend your knees more when doing cross cuts. This helps make a skater look more flowing on the ice. Working on artistry is also a very important thing. If you extend your arm out, then make sure that you follow you head along with your arms. This sounds corney but feel the music, don't just skate to it. Again, very important!!! Use emotion when you skate too.
Your spins do need some work, but I think spins come with time. One day your sit spin will probably just click, and you will have it perfect! That is what happened with me and my sit spin lol.
I couldn't listen to your music because my audio isn't set up :(. Over all you are a very nice skater, and you should be proud. Technique will improve greatly over time, so just wait and be patient! You have great potential, and I guarantee you will turn out to be a fabulous skater!!! I hope I helped,

Just a couple things:
- Your choreography is not good. There is WAY too much crosscutting. It's boring, and also your crossovers aren't the most beautiful (much too 'steppy') so they don't really contribute anything. You should be doing something more interesting or intricate to move across the ice.
- I couldn't listen with the music because I'm in class right now, but from not hearing any music, you could've been skating to just about anything. it could've been jazzy, or lyrical, or dramatic, and I really wouldn't've been able to tell the difference.
- Get your shoulders down, head up, and stop flapping your arms. Do something with your arms that interprets the music. EXPRESS.
- This is totally superficial, but maybe you should have your hair in a bun. The flapping around was distracting.
The main thing is, it's just not very interesting (also I think you may have flutzed both of the lutzes. Couldn't tell for sure because of the angle. And your sit spin needs work). If you want high marks at that level, you have to capture attention, and make it captivating. Cleanliness can only get you so far.

Your footwork is ok, im just starting out, but I always go to practice early to watch the competitors at my rink, so yeah lol, your arms definitely need a place, and your moves seemed kinda a little choppy. Loved the music and your dress, your hair didn't really bother me, but the moron screaming in the back ground was VERY distracting

Oh dear.
I don't mean to sound mean, but your sit spin was awful and sloppy. It won't even count. And if you're only doing two spins, an off-centre scratch isn't going to pick up many points.
Your jumps are loose and sloppy, you flutz, and have you ever heard of holding a landing position?
Too many ugly crossovers. No transitions and footwork very mediocre. I'm a pathetic little FS3 whose highest required jump is a toeloop and my technical program has more transitions than that.
No expression or interpretation of the music. Arms spent too much time flopping out like a wet aeroplane. If you're going to use your arms, use them properly, with control and finish.
Dress had absolutely zero connection to the music whatsoever. OTB tights looked ok but really highlighted your lack of extension. Won't kill you to straighten your knee when your leg is stretched out!
Music finishes too abruptly. I was waiting for the next bit. Also, HOLD your finishing pose. You kinda hit it for a split second then moved off. Don't do that. It just really highlights the overall poor quality of the program.
Like I said, I don't mean to sound mean. But this program won't be looked on kindly by judges and it might be better to know that now than to spend half the season wondering why you're always coming last.
