  • What goes in a travel journal?

So I know there's the writing and post cards and all that jazz, but I was wondering what places.

I'm from the SF Bay Area so I can make almost everyday an adventure. Berkeley, so many beaches, San Francisco, Sacramento, Oakland, ect...

What counts as traveling? One of my friends told me to write about our last beach trip (1.5 hour drive) in my travel journal. I didn't think that would qualify as "traveling" but I would also like to remember it. What do you think?

    Thanks!

  • I spin/Y spin help?

    Hi y'all :)

So spinning has always been a struggle for me. I was wondering if for I spins (or Y spins) if they are possible to do forward. I always see people do back I spins, but I'm an opposite yet I usually lift my left leg. I know you have to lean back a bit, so it's easier to do it as a back spin, but I don't know, is it possible to do forward?

Also any tips on I spins in general?

  • Advice on my skating: Easy question :)?

Hi! So I'm competing for singles this year and I haven't since two years ago because I've been focusing on moves in the field and synchro.

    Please watch my program:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWWeNum3oyM

This program was for my rink's spring recital, so my coach made the footwork and choreography a little easier than normal. But do you have any advice to just "look better" while skating. How does my skating look?

    Thank youu!

  • Figure skating blades advice?

    Hey everyone!

I'm getting new skates. :) They are the KT-2's from SP Teri. I got fitted at the actual SP teri place and they recommended MK Vision or Paramounts. My coach recommended MK Professionals.

What should I get? I'm hoping the skates will last at least two years.

  • Which dress for recital/competition?

My skating program is to Shrek :) It starts out really graceful and pretty, but half way through it gets really loud and kind-of like a battle scene music if you know what i mean. So yea, which dress should i wear? If you don't like any of these what dress or what color?

    Thanks!

  • In your opinion does this nickname work?

Ok, so my name is Bethan, I love my name, but I prefer Bethany. Would it be weird for me to lengthen my name as a nickname... idk how to explain that?

  • Birthday outfits, makeup or hair?

Hi. So my birthday is on Sunday and I need some outfits, hair, and makeup for the following events.

    1. So on Sunday I'm not really doing anything special. I'm going to church as usual (u can wear whatever u want, just so u know), and then I'm going out for dinner with my family.

    2. The next day, Monday, I have school and me and my friends are celebrating my birthday at lunch (they're bringing me cake and stuff :D). And it's the day after my birthday so I want to look nice :)

    3. The next weekend, I'm hanging out with my friends, basically for my birthday, we are going shopping and then going to a restaurant, the cheesecake factory.

    Thanks! I'm turning 15 btw!

  • Will I be able to work...?

Will I be able to get a work permit? We have to turn a request in for a work permit for school if we want to work. My friend said that her mom's friend has an opportunity for me to be a part-time "princess". :)

I am 15 (well in 4 days), but my problem is that I'm not a US citizen- I have a green card (permanent resident) Btw: Do I have a social security number?

    Thanksss! :) :) :)

  • How can I earn money for ice skating? Or how to earn money?

Thanks! Basically self explanitory, but if you read my other question (PLEASEE answer!) I explained that unless I can find the money for 30 min private lessons each week, I'm going to have to choose whether I want to focus on MIF or freestyle elements... Thanks. You can't work at my rink until your 16.

    Oh and I'm 14 years old. :)

    Thanks! Please help mee!

  • What should I choose? PLEASE HELP!?

Ok so I have a hugeee problem!

My family is not rich at all and I've been skating for 2 years now. My mom recently (in October?) cut my lessons down to 15 minutes a week (yes omg :( im serious). I know they do so much for me so I can't really complain, and my mom is trying really hard to get a job so that I can get at least 30 minutes a week. (I have 4 brothers, all under 16)

Ok so anyways. My coach said that with only one 15 minute private lesson I'll have to choose what I want to focus on, moves in the field or freestyle.

I want to do moves in the field because I'm on a synchronized skating team, this year we competed pre-juvenile and my coach said I'm one of the best and strongest skaters on the team. Next year she wants to put me on the higher team (we would go to nationals :)) I really really want to, but I would have to pass pre-juvenile and juvenile moves in the field tests within 2 years. (I just recently passed preliminary). I'm not the best at moves in the field but my coach and assistant coach think I could do it! And they really want me on the higher level team, but I really have to pass the tests. This is the choice my coach wants me to choose because she is my synchro coach too and most of her students take from her just for MIF.

I don't want to do MIF, because it bores me.

I want to focus on freestyle (jumps and spins) because they are much more fun to practice, to be honest I love to fall and feel like I'm trying really really hard and that I'm a good skater. (i feel like this only for jumps) and the feeling of finding your sweet spot on a spin is irreplacable. I just started my axel for jumps and I feel like I'm semi close to landing it (maybe another month...?). Anyways so I really want to land it and move on to my doubles. :)

I definitely love jumps and spins more than MIF, but I feel like if I don't land my axel during my lessons than i'm just wasting time...Also I won't be able to compete singles, my favourite part of the year if I choose MIF. But if I don't do MIF, in 2 years or maybe this year I could end up being the only one of my friends on the lower team, which if that happened I would quit without a doubt, because the girls on that team can't skate and led us to almost tears every practice.

I have no idea what to do. My coach said I couldn't split my lessons in half or do an every other week thing, but she said if I chose MIF than every so often I could do freestyle (like once a month). But I wouldn't be able to compete. :(

What do you think I should choose? I can't bear to think of not being on the higher synchro team where I've been aiming for since my 1st day of synchro (1.5 years ago). but I love to compete with singles and I was going to compete at pre-pre 3 this year and I was super excitedd... this choice is like about to make me cry!

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK I SHOULD CHOOSE?

PS: Does anyone have super quick ways to earn money for skating? (my rink doesn't higher people under 16 and I'm 14 :()

PPS: random- has anyone tried cashcrate? I heard it was a great way for money (I lovee to take surveys). My dad says its a scam. Nothing I show him will make him belive. Any experience? Or anyway to persuade my dad? haha thanks.

  • How many hours a week should I skate?

So I was just wondering how many hours a week I should skate? I am 14 years old, going into 9th grade. I am working on my preliminary moves in the field, axel, and camel. I have a 30 minute private lesson each week. (yea i know, not a lot) Can you either tell me how many days a week I should skate or when I should skate out of the times below... btw I can skate as much as I want, I just want to know how often I should and what my max. should be? I'm fine with weekday mornings but I'd prefer to have 3 weekday morning tops, I really prefer afterschool.

Times to skate at my rink for figure skaters that I can....

    1 1/2 hours before school Monday-Friday

    1 hour after school Monday-Tuesday

    1 1/2 hours after school/evening Tuesday + Thursday

    45 min Thursday evening (Synchro)

1 hour 15 min Friday afternoon

    2 1/2 hours Saturday morning

    4 1/2 hours Saturday afternoon

    3 hours Sunday afternoon

  • Snow/Ski Trip questions??!?!! (:?

Ok. So on Friday I'm leaving for a snow/ski trip with my church youth group (just middle school.) I'm 13, 8th grade girl. I have a couple questions about this weekend. It's at Squaw Valley.

    1. I really don't like skiing. So me and a friend are going ice skating. I do figure skating, so I was just wondering if i should bring snow clothes. (They said to bring snow clothes) but i'm not sure because I'm used to skating? So. Should I bring snow clothes???

    2. How much money should I bring not including activities? Our meals are provided. so how much spending money?

    3. What should I bring?

    4. It's a 3-hour drive. What should I wear on the way up? What should I wear while I'm not skating? Thanks. Can you please answer one or more of my questions. THanks.

  • HELP! How to switch coaches?

I really hate my coaches behavior. I have nothing against her, but I just don't think she's right for me. She just gets soooo frustrated and mad when I do the tiniest thing. I just finished group lessons. I've had her for about 6 months and I've never learned a thing with her. She always talks to coaches during my lesson. She always is late for my lesson or schedules a lesson on top of mine. I feel like I'm wasting my time and money. I love the sport, but this isn't fun. The only problem is she's our synchro team coach. I'm scared if I switch from her she will put me on the beginner team next year instead of the pre-juv team (which she said I could be on). I'm 13 and my mom doesn't really know aabout this. I really don't see eye-to-eye with this coach and would be happier with another. What do I tell my coach and how do I switch? (Btw she's somehow head coach at the rink)
