How many hours a week should I skate?

So I was just wondering how many hours a week I should skate? I am 14 years old, going into 9th grade. I am working on my preliminary moves in the field, axel, and camel. I have a 30 minute private lesson each week. (yea i know, not a lot) Can you either tell me how many days a week I should skate or when I should skate out of the times below... btw I can skate as much as I want, I just want to know how often I should and what my max. should be? I'm fine with weekday mornings but I'd prefer to have 3 weekday morning tops, I really prefer afterschool.

Times to skate at my rink for figure skaters that I can....

1 1/2 hours before school Monday-Friday

1 hour after school Monday-Tuesday

1 1/2 hours after school/evening Tuesday + Thursday

45 min Thursday evening (Synchro)

1 hour 15 min Friday afternoon

2 1/2 hours Saturday morning

4 1/2 hours Saturday afternoon

3 hours Sunday afternoon

I'd say you should be skating at least 4-5 times per week, so roughly 8-10 hours. But it depends on you and your personal requirements - how much you can handle, any other commitments you may have, etc. There's no max number of hours you can skate as long as you don't get too tired, so if I were you I'd do like, all of the sessions (by the way, you are SOOO lucky you can skate as much as you want!).

We can't plan your skating schedule for you - it's up to you. Arrange your practices around your schedule and aim to skate as much as YOU can handle. If you find yourself getting too tired in practice, cut back a bit. And it would be good to give yourself at least one day off per week.

Just as an example, I'm at roughly the same level as you (well a bit higher, I'm working on my double salchow, double loop, flying camel etc.) and I skate 5 times per week, each time is for about an hour (that's just because my rink's sessions are really short though, I'd do more if I could), 4 practices are before school and one is after school. But that's because that is what suits me. So it's really up to you :)

I agree with the other answerer, the weekend sessions will probably be best - however they may be busier with it being weekend. I would opt for the morning sessions but the problem with early mornings is you may not fully perform to your best - your body has just woken up.

So maybe after school or weekends...1 hour after school mon-tues doesn't seem very much (in my opinion) i would expect to skate at least 1 1/2 - 2 hours after school.

But 4 1/2 hour practise on one go is a bit full on - your rin should really spread them out a bit more.

So maybe saturday monings and sunday afternoons, with maybe an hour or so during the week.

I think i'm almost your level - should be working on axel soon and already have my camel and during a normal week I skate 6-8 hours, now it's summer i'm skating 8-10 hours.

Practise is good...but sometimes TOO much practise can actually be bad..spread your practise schedule out :)

I skate about an hour or so usually every other day. Right now my schedule goes something like 1 hour on the ice on Sundays plus 45 minutes of off-ice before that, Tuesdays an hour and half plus 30 minutes of off-ice, Thursdays and Fridays 45 minutes volunteering, and on Friday an hour of my group lesson. I sometimes add an extra hour on Thursdays if I don't have any tests or big projects due on the next day. I'm hoping to compete pre-preliminary this year, since my lutz and flip need a bit more practice, but maybe one or two more if I feel ready. I competed in my club's competition a few days ago, so maybe three competitions a year?

I am 13 and goin in 2 year nine in september! I compete at a very high level competing in chempionships ect. In the holidays i skate 10 hours a day! 7 days a week! I skate join the public open hours and i have lessons from an olympic trainer for an hour a day at £55 a hour! I have private ice time for 3 hours a day and thats £100 for that long! its a very expensive sport and takes a lot of time, effot and money aswell as skill, confidance and earlie mornings. I leave the house at 5am every morning to b skating at 6! and i dont get home till 7pm as i am skating till 6pm! but it pays off when u win! its so fun and its worth all the hard work ;) good good luck in your future skating

There is no max to skating schedules. It depends how long winded you are.

If you aren't very long winded and get lazy there I would do maybe 4 days a week.

If you are then 6 days is great. You should at least give yourself one day off per week.

Go for the Saturday and Sunday times because you get to practice a long time!

And the Tuesday+Thursday sounds good. And of course synchro lol.
