You aren't going to get decent pay if you're a low rank like E-1 or E-2 which is probably what you will be starting out as. If you want better money, look into officers training.

I suggest you don't do it. If you aren't doing it to serve your country or be part of something bigger than yourself then you will drag everyone around you down, and probably won't last long either. I have seen people who joined for all kinds of reasons and I find those who didn't do it for selfless reasons are the ones who get in trouble, refuse to do work, make MORE work for those who DO work, and run a bigger chance of getting killed or getting someone else killed. I had a Private First Class in my squad. She would brag about how she only joined for the college money, and how she was going to move into politics after her first contract, and after going to school for it. Any time work was being handed out for people to do she was on her cell phone, and if dirt was involved she was no where ot be seen. I saw this and every time she walked off I smoked her to the point that she had to be carried home because her legs were that weak after I was done with her. She eventually made a complaint that I was singling her out, and when everything went to my superiors she was hit with over 25 counts of disobeying a lawful order, as well as disrespect and more. She was kicked out after only 1 year. She received a General Discharge and her precious money for school was taken from her, as well as any chance of getting into politics. This is a bit severe, but this is usually the story for those who join for the wrong reasons. One guy who "just joined for the money" got sick of the environment, went AWOL around the time I got to my first unit, about 3 weeks before I PCS'd he was brought back by MPs and spent 2 years dealing with a Courts Martial, only to be sentenced to 2 years, He's still in Fort Leavenworth from what I hear! Just don't do it for stupid reasons like this, it cheapens what we do, and makes it harder on those who do take pride in the service itself. Remember that the reason you gave is all about YOU and the Army is all about the guy standing to your left and to your right. You're not ready for what it requires and you will regret it when you realize that you are working 24/7/365 and that the Army comes before all else. Do you really want to have to be on call 24/7 and to have someone in all of your personal business just for some money? Additionally, do you realize that you will be living UNDER the poverty line until you reach E-6, theres no real money in it and the paychecks suck! You're better off flipping burgers if you're just looking for a paycheck!

Yes its wrong and selfish, people like me would join for the right reasons, but you are joining the for wrong reasons, and you wont be cut out for it in the end.. and you have to accept what the reality's of war are before you join, because if ever a war kicks off you are going to be in the thick of it.. and you are either going to get killed or get other people killed... its not a game its real life, if I was you I would do something else... as your heart is not in it.

i've heard stories about people like this and they end up leaving during phase one because they don't like it, i'm passionate about joining and really want to do. if you aren't 100% chances are you won't make it :/ look at the roles you could do and pick something you would enjoy, i think that's more important than the money when joining the army.

no, but first you should consider the dangers of joining the army, the army isn't just a way of getting money.

Usually people who join the military just for the money, tend to be the ones who are willing to sell secrets to other countries and what not. I hope you also want to do it because you also want really to serve your country.
