How do I restore my MacBook Pro to factory settings for resale?

I am wanting to sell my MacBook Pro for the newer model. I purchased this in March 2011. This may be a silly question but I've never "wiped" a Mac for resale and I'm use to doing so on PCs. What is the best way I can restore factory settings to this MacBook for resale?

Also, would it be easier to backup my Mac on an external Hard drive or to do a Mac to Mac transfer before restoring?

Sorry for the 2 part question and thanks!

From the soudns of it...Undoubtedly, nevertheless, i advise you backup you whole tough drive, but within the occasion that you don't want to do the research and take some time, i additional advocate you replica the microsoft workplace folder to a usb flash pressure or a external hard disk drive where there may be enoigh room. Whenever you go through the system, replica it again. I lately just upgraded my mac with extra memory and a significatly bigger inner tough force. I backup up my hard drive to a outside useing SuperDuper, and it created a designated picture of my mac and the state i left it in. See if which you can get your arms on SuperDuper, it isnt free, however in poor health provide you with a trace...Torrent.
