amplifier protection when playing live?

Every guitar player cringes at the thought of some clown spilling a drink on his amp or even placing a drink on the amp and leaving rings.

Anyone know of a preventive measure, device, whatever that can prevent or at least lesson the damage

from careless people or even band members?

Update:

The amp stand is a good idea. Of course I'm familiar with them but have never thought about the context of using one to deter drunks/drinks.

Thanks.

Not much can be done about someone spilling a drink on the amplifier, short of being alert to drunks with drinks in their hands. If you use an inexpensive amp stand that holds your amplifier at a slight angle, it would be less tempting for someone to place a drink on top; the other advantage of a stand is being able to hear yourself better.
