Why am I more outraged by my adult children not voting than I am of them abandoning their faith?

Well it's Provincial election day in Beautiful British Columbia Canada.

(part of the Land that "God keeps glorious and free" according to it's anthem)

and my adult children choose to snub the democratic process by ignoring their civic duty. Reasons? They have none.

I think they'd rank higher on my "respect-o-meter" if they intentionally spoiled their vote in protest.... at least then they'd be embracing some ideal rather than... "I simply don't want to."

You learn something fairly quickly as your children age... there are lots of things you can't make them do...

You can't make them eat.

You can't make them sleep.

You can't make them believe in the faith you adhere to.

and.. You can't make them vote.

Am I out to lunch? or should I be outraged by my 20 and 22 yr old children skipping out on voting, because it's inconvenient?

Update:

(((Debbie))) lol... somehow I don't think quoting Pope Pious will advance my cause to my children.

Update 2:

Edit; You should all know that I affirmed to them that I continue to love them both.. just simply disappointed by their shirking of their responsibility.

Update 3:

(((((Wispy)))))) Once again you impress me!! Kudos for enduring the process. My "respect-o-meter" is near maxing out :-)

Maybe you aren't so P.O.ed about the faith thing because you yourself once left the fold of the Church and "had to read himself back into Orthodoxy" .Your words not mine. Perhaps though, you never so treated the democratic process and so you won't let them have the slack to express their disdain for or even ennui with the voting process. BTW I DID vote- even though to do so meant a logistic sideshow as they wheeled me to the voting booth and clustered about frantically making sure that my vote was duly recorded even though I can't see or sign stuff or speak properly. Even summoned a returning officer they did. heh heh you don't know what you are giving up until doing it is so hard.....

My friend you should be more mad that they do not follow the faith. Because that reflects you did a poor job of being the man of the house. This world and the rulers of this world mean nothing as it is God who puts people in power we are to obey them in all things unless they make laws against our following the word of God. Romans 13:1-7 and Acts 5:29.

A person who can not rule his own home is not a very good leader but once the kids are old enough to chose what they truly believe if as long as they were with you and followed the Lord while under your roof you did you job. They will have to answer to God for their behavior. but then again they are not honoring mother and father by not being a believer it makes you look bad as a godly parent. I don't mean to be critical to you this was not meant as a put down. Thanks for the question friend. God bless.

No doubt you are a great parent. However, problem is you have high expectation from your children. Not all enjoy similar interest. I bet there are many things which they probably love doing but you wouldnt and vice versa..as this voting an example. You have to respect their decision to get same in return at their age. Unless you build the idea in them to participate equally in each other's interest as mean of maintaining/showing love amongst family members. But this should have been done from the time they were small.Nevertheless , you can still try but dont push too much. It might drive them away from you. Best to respect their decision and enjoy your voting.

Ah, I don't vote either. The reason is because I try to act rationally, and the odds of ONE vote actually swaying an election is next to zero, and certainly not worth the price of having to do jury duty. The fact that people do go through so much trouble to cast one (practially meaningless) vote is known as the VOTING PARADOX, and it's something that makes sense to me, so I choose not to vote.

Priorities is the answer to the first question. You obviously look at voting as more important than God.

And what is this saying to your Adult children about your priorities? If they have lost faith, they look at what they see and often learn from those close to them. Put God first and the rest will come.

If they don't want to vote then leave them alone. That is their business. Period.

They live in a democratic society and that gives them the freedom to not vote if they so choose.

I am a proud non voter and I dare anyone to give me any trouble for it.

Besides, voting won't change a thing.

You need to realize they are their own selves...you cannot control them. If they don't want to vote then they do not. Sorry but you have no say. Look at what they ARE doing that you agree with! You raised them so they got a bit of you in them, they can't be doing all that bad now can they?

I live in BC too, but was raised in the States.

I feel it is your civic duty to vote.

How else can your country run without the input of the people.

    Christy showed us that!

Religion is a personal choice, voting is owed to your countrymen.
