How to find my fathers parents name.?
I don't know anyone one from my dad's side of the family. And i would really like to find who they are. I know that some will say "why don't you ask your mom?", which i have. She has only met my grandmother once, and its very frustrating that she cant remember her ex-mother-in-law's name. And i cant ask my dad 'cause we don't have that kind of relationship.
I have tried Facebook, Google, ancestry, etc. I couldn't really find anything that was useful. So yeah im in a bit of a pickle! I'm only 17. So i cant really do much but whatever i would be able to find off the internet that is free.
Anyway basically my question is do you have any suggestion and/or advise that may be useful in anyway?

My husband had the same dilemma for decades. If your parents were married, his parents' names might be on their marriage application. Some are available free at Family Search. They also provide a few indexes. You can use the indexes to find out where and when they married and order the record from the jurisdiction. In Clark Co., Nevada a copy of the application only costs $1, for example.

You can try looking on FamilySearch.org in the United States records section under the state where he was born. Some states have basic birth records as recently as the 1960s. Others do not. Click 'Search" on the opening page and scroll down to the map near the bottom. Click on United States in the menu and then select the state.
If you don't find it there, you can possibly order a copy from the state vital records department where he was born. Different states have different laws and it usually costs about $15. You need to prove you are related. Google the state + vital records birth records.

Someone with an Ancestry.com subscription might be willing to look him up, but you'd have to enable your e-mail and get the response privately, since his parents are probably still alive, and we frown on posting details of living people.
If you live close enough to the public library in the town where they got married, go there and have the librarian show you how to use the microfilm reader. If you can find an article about the wedding in old newspapers on microfilm (they come out 0 - 7 days after the event, on the "Society" or "Women's" page) it will be full of names and relatives.

Depending where you live will depend on what information is on records, if you are USA based then your grandparents name should be on your parents marriage cert, they will be on your fathers birth cert and also if you live near the church they got married in the the parish records are likely to have their names in the register when your parents married............ are there any members of your fathers family you have contact with as they are also likely to know.......... you could visit our library and look on ancestry for free for your parents marriage to see if they have the record but genealogy websites are not really about records of living people, they are more about people who died a number of years ago.............

Try to get a hold of his birth certificate which will list his parents. From here you can look for marriage records to find your grandma's maiden name.
