A series of questions about names in general. Want opinions!?

(questions arent actually as long as they appear, they are just elaborating/my opinion)

Dont have to answer all if you dont want. Just thought itd be a fun little questionnaire!

★1. When naming twins or triplets, what kind of theme would you follow if any?

Like, do you think naming them in alphabetical order (J,K,L) or the same starting letter or the same syllables or rhyming is going too far?

[I like having same syllables and letters but not so its really bad - Rachael Elena and Reuben Elijah]

★2. How important do you think it is for sibsets to match?

Like, would you think it weird to have a plain, bible boy name with a different, uniquely named sister?

[I dont think they do have to match]

★3. What is your #1 guilty pleasure first name for a girl?

[Mine is a three way tie between Alaska (Allie), Addison (unisex but seen as more manly) or Madelyn (shh)]

★4. What is your #1 guilty pleasure first name for a boy?

[Dont really have one, at a stretch it would be Archer (Archie)]

★5. What is a versatile boy name, (lots of nicknames)?

For girls, theres names like Elizabeth with Ellie, Eliza, Lizzie, Liz, Beth, Bethany, Lisa etc, but I dont know any baby boy names like this with more than 2 nicknames!

★6. Pretentious names - what are some examples of names you find pretentious? Are Evangeline or Jacqueline pretentious?

[I dont think they are, but am curious as I adore them]

★7. What is your #1 long and #1 short first name for girls (1 of each)?

[Mine are Evangeline and Lily]

★8. Same for boys?

[Mine are Leonardo and Luca]

    1. I am a twin, I do NOT like themes! Twins are individuals, just like normal siblings. If you're not going to give normal siblings matching names, why do it with multiples? Do you know how annoying it is to be constantly mistaken for someone else? Why would someone make that even harder by giving your children matching names? I'm so glad my sister and I have different names! I find matching names really tacky and childish I would avoid any noticeable theme on purpose. Some are quite subtle, though, so I suppose that's alright. Like using Eve and Jacob because they're both biblical for example.

    2. I don't see why they should match at al. They are not going to be children forever, one day they'll be adults living individually, so why does it matter if their names 'go'? Just choose names you like, IMO! I think a lot of names have similar themes just because it reflects the parents taste in names.

    3. Hmm, I have quite a lot. Mine would be a three-way tie as well, between Persephone, Holliday 'Holly' and Primrose 'Posy'. But I have like thirty, lol.

I like Alaska btw! I know someone called that. She always went by Allie, I thought it was short for Alison or something for ages!

    4. I don't really have one, but i suppose I'd say either Beau or Diesel (lol, don't laugh).

    5. There are heaps! Google them! A lot of people see names and just think there is only one nickname, because it's the most common. For example Olivia- everyone assumes they're called Liv, but there's also Olive, Livia, Via, Lia, Libby (also a nickname for Elizabeth btw) andI've heard of Ivy too.

    - Alexander: Alex, Alec, Al, Alie, Lex, Xander, Andy, Dan, Sacha (Russian nickname).

    - James: Jamie, Jim, Jimmy, Jem, Jay, Jack,

    - Johnathan: Johnny, Jack, Jock, Jo, Nate, Nat, Nathan.

    6. Lol, my naming style has been called pretentious, usually by by people woth children named Bentleigh and Navaeh. I call it sophisticated. Therefore, I find both Evangeline and Jacqueline as sophisticated. Some "pretentious" names you might like:

Penelope, Vivienne, Gabrielle, Isabelle, Annabelle, Madeleine, Victoria, Seraphina, Rosalie, Violet, Caroline, Emmeline, Florence, Angelina, Anastasia, Juliette, Adelaide, Eleanor, Lillian, Imogen, Genevieve, Gwendolyn, Arabella, Ariana, Aurora, Camille, Matilda, Primrose, Priscilla, Isadora, Cordelia, Natalia, Helena, Georgina, Athena, Alexandria, Tatiana, Veronica, Persephone, Claudia...

    7. My daughter is named Ruby. My next favourite name is Annabel? Is that too short? Otherwise, Madeleine and Emmeline are on my list!

    8. James and William or Alexander. ( I LOVE Luca!)

    :)

★1. When naming twins or triplets, what kind of theme would you follow if any?

None. I don't like the idea of matching names for siblings at all. In fact, I'm so insanely against it, that I have major issues with choosing my favourite name out of two that share the same initial (eg. Astrid and August).

★2. How important do you think it is for sibsets to match?

See above. Sibling names should NEVER match, however, they should also not be polar opposites. For example, Mary and Bryleigh would be ******* awful for sisters. I mean, Mary is beautiful and feminine and classic, and Bryleigh is... well, Bryleigh.

★3. What is your #1 guilty pleasure first name for a girl?

I have too many! I suppose if I had to choose, it'd be Daenerys. No, I can't choose. Don't make me.

★4. What is your #1 guilty pleasure first name for a boy?

Again, I have too bloody many. If forced to choose, I would try and choose Draco. But I can't.

★5. What is a versatile boy name, (lots of nicknames)?

    Theodore - Theo, Ted, Teddy

Edward - Ed, Eddie, Ned, Ted, Teddy

Robert - Rob, Robbie, Bob, Bobby, Robin

William - Will, Bill, Billy, Willy, Liam (debatable)

Christopher - Chris, Topher, Kit, Chip

Alexander - Alex, Xander, Sacha, Lex

★6. Pretentious names - what are some examples of names you find pretentious? Are Evangeline or Jacqueline pretentious?

I don't find those names pretentious. They end the first chance they get to end. Names I find pretentious are Sophia, Annabella, and Gabriella. They couldn't just stop at Sophie, Annabel, or Gabrielle, no. They had to keep going and add a pointless -a on the end, making the names sound overly frilly and far too try-hard.

★7. What is your #1 long and #1 short first name for girls (1 of each)?

Cordelia and Lily (I'm going by long and short in both sound and spelling, because otherwise I'd choose Phoebe for the short name).

    ★8. Same for boys?

    Dorian and Rory.

When naming twins or triplets, what kind of theme would you follow if any?

➔ I really wouldn't use a theme. I'd just use the two names I like best that flow well. If I were to do a theme, they would have opposite initials (ex. Lilian Juliet and Jackson Luca)

How important do you think it is for sibsets to match?

➔ I don't think they have to match, but I do think they have to sound nice together. I don't think you should have Jordan and Georgia, as they're too similar. But I also don't think you should have Benjamin and Everleigh, as they're too different. Benjamin is a classic, proper name, and Everleigh is "tryndee". The styles are so different it's as though they were named by different people.

What is your #1 guilty pleasure first name for a girl?

➔ Hmmm...probably Avalon. It's the name of a super trashy town near the area where my fiancé grew up. I also think it's a bit too trendy with the "Ava" part. Macy is a close second simply because I think it sounds very childish.

What is your #1 guilty pleasure first name for a boy?

➔ Beckett! I think it's so quirky and adorable, and I love Beck as a nickname. But my fiancé pointed out that it totally sounds like "bucket" and now I can't take it seriously.

What is a versatile boy name, (lots of nicknames)?

➔ Alexander. I know Alexanders who go by the following - Alex, Zander, Al, Alec, Andy, and even Ander/Anders. Benjamin has Benji, Ben, and Benny. William has Will, Liam, Willy, and Bill. Frederick has Fred, Freddy, Rick, and Ricky. Robert has Rob, Robby, Bob, and Bobby. Harrison has Harris, Harry, and Sonny. Jonathan has John, Johnny, Joe, and even Nathan.

Pretentious names - what are some examples of names you find pretentious? Are Evangeline or Jacqueline pretentious?

➔ I find Evangeline to be slightly pretentious. Maybe because it's the name of a high end private school here, but it just sounds snooty to me. Jacqueline isn't pretentious at all, it's a lovely, classic name! I think Emmeline, Ophelia, Alessandra, and the like are pretentious.

What is your #1 long and #1 short first name for girls (1 of each)?

    ➔ Long = Anneliese

➔ Short = Leila (but I also love Lila and Lily)

    Same for boys?

    ➔ Long = Alexander

➔ Short = Owen (but I also love Luca and Gage)

I don't think having names that rhyme or having same syllables is necessary, but It doesn't annoy me either. You'd be surprised with how many people I know who absolutely hate it when twins or triplets all have names that start witht the same letter. Personally, I would probably not do it just because most of my favorite names are pretty spread out around the alphabet, but not because I hate it.

I don't think they need to match whatsoever. My cousin has six year old twins named Henry and Kinslee. These names aren't exactly similar, but they work!

First of all, I love Alaska! So beautiful! But my favorite guilty pleasure name for a girl would have to be Ireland or Scotland. I love place names a lot.

For a boy, I think my favorite GP would have to be Phineas or Ira.

Benjamin - Ben, Benny, Jamie, James, Ames, Benji

Nicholas - Nic, Nick, Nicki, Cole, Nico

William - Will, Bill, Willie, Liam, Ian, Lam

Alexander - Alex, Lex, Al, Xander, Zane, Alec

I like Evangeline and Jacqueline, I don't think either as pretentious. I don't even know what would qualify as a pretentious name?

    Penelope & Quinn.

    Grantland & Henry.

If I had 2 or 3 names that were among my top favorites that all started with the same letter, than yes, they would all start with the first letter. Other than that, no

Example: I love the names Robert and Reilly for boys : Robert George and Reilly Alexander

I don't think the sibset has to be, per say, all traditional or all unique. But a pairing of Mary, LaShawnda, and Shun-Pao... that would be weird. But Mary, Juniper, and Padme can potentially work.

Gardner - I think it is just so pretty

Amsterdam - Unique and maybe weird, but manly, sexy, and powerful

Alexander - Alex, Lex, Al, Ali, Andre, Andy, Xander, Lexi, Allen

I think Evangeline is pretentious, not Jacqueline. I think Annabella is.

I only have 3 girls names, Courtney and Julianne both have 8 letters and Nora has 4

Leonardo (LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!) is the longest and John is the shortest

    1. The only theme I would follow is names that I like. I don't think twins or triplets should be treated like a package deal -- they're individuals.

    2. I don't think it's too important, but it depends on the styles that are mixing. For example, John and Chloe would be strange, but John and Romilly wouldn't be too weird. Since John is a classic name and Chloe is extremely trendy, they don't work well together, but Romilly isn't trendy -- it's unique, but it's just as elegant as John is. My top girl names are Catherine and Caroline, and my top boy names are Oliver and Leo. They're different styles, but they're all classy and sophisticated, so they work together.

    3. Romilly, Delaney, Seraphina -- I love them all so much!

    4. Roman

    5. William: Will, Bill, Billy, Willie, Liam, Wills

    6. I don't find many names to be "pretentious"…but that may be because most of my favorite names are considered pretentious by others. I don't think Evangeline or Jacqueline are pretentious at all. I love a lot of literary names and "preppy" names, which some people consider to be "uppity" or "rich," such as Brontë, Carrington, Campbell, Meredith, Wellesley, Calloway, Chandler, Preston, Spencer, Sullivan, etc.

    7. Long is Catherine, short is Nora

    8. Long is Sebastian, short is Leo

    1. I wouldn't overly go for a pattern or theme at all, I don't think. I'd be more inclined to use the same first letter for the middle name, or reverse the initials (so A.B. and B.A for example) though, just to keep some sort of similarity without it being over the top.

    2. I don't think they have to match, as such, but I think that some names are just too different to be used together comfortably. Similarly, names that are too matchy just annoy me (especially like the names a friend of mine is set on using, even though her partner absolutely hates them, Addison and Maddison. It's just too much in my opinion!) As long as the names don't sound really odd together I don't think it's a problem either way though.

    3. I love the name Coral, but I wouldn't use it. I also love Dorothy, but I think it's too old fashioned so I don't think I'd use this either.

    4. Yaris. No, it's not after the car that's called Yaris. It comes from the Greek Charis, like Chariot, though, so it does kind of mean the same thing. And it's technically a girl's name. But my uncle's partner named their son Yaris and I just kind of fell in love with the name. (My uncle's partner's son is in his late 40's, by the way, so way before the car came out!)

    5. Christopher is pretty versatile? Chris, Topher, Perry, Chrissy, Christy, ToTo. Not all common nicknames I guess though. I don't know. I guess Alexander? Alex, Lex, Xander, Derry, Andy?

    6. I like both names you've suggested there! Names I find pretentious are names like Christine/a and Margot.

    7. Charlotte and Mia.

    8. Alexander and Craig.

    1. I'm not keen on names which are obviously matchy, like rhyming names or names starting with the same letter, but it might be nice to have a more subtle theme, like using nature names as middles, or names ending in -y. I think, personally, I'd just give twins/triplets my top favourite names, and not worry too much about a theme. I'd want the names to be similar in style, but not over the top matchy.

    2. I like names for siblings to be similar in style, but different in sound. I think it would be a bit odd to name your first child James and your second child Constantine, because they're so completely different in style and level of popularity.

    3. I'd have to say December. I would have said Octavia, but since I met a real life Octavia, I'm thinking it might actually be usable for a child.

    4. I have so many! My regular list and GP list for boys have become very mixed up lately. I'll pick Saxon, as I'm pretty sure I could never really use that for a child.

    5. Alexander - you could have Alex, Lex, Xan, Xander, Derry, Andy etc.

    6. Penelope, Araminta, Francesca, Amelia and any name that comes from a designer label or expensive product, like Chanel or Mercedes. No I don't find either of those names pretentious - Evangeline is a beautiful, underused choice, and Jacqueline isn't my style but I don't see anything wrong with it as such.

    7. Cecelia and Belle

    8. Callaghan and Jude

    Fun survey! =)

    1. I wouldn't seek out a theme but if it happened to end up that way I wouldn't care (ex: two family named I want to use both start with the same letter and would match really well for twins as if I had triplets I would pick another name with the same letter just to even it out)

    2. I don't think they have to match. Mine and my sis's name don't match and I love unique names for girls and classic boy names just like u said

    3. I don't really have GP girl names bc all the unique girl names I like, I would be fine using (myb Valentina-- I really love it but probs wouldn't use it)

    4. River first of all (I couldn't use it bc it's too masculine for a girl and not masculine enough for a boy). I also love Brooklyn for a boy

    5. Frederick myb: Freddie, Ricky, Fred, Rick, Fred-o lol

    6. Preston, Chad & Brody for boys and Mia and Chloe for girls. Jacqueline seems a little pretentious but I don't think Evangeline is

    7. Vivienne & Lily

    8. Oliver & Jack (i love Luca!)

    1. I don't think I'd follow any real theme, just names that sound good together. I maybe would do like the same initials, or maybe all Irish names or something.

    2. They should be similar, but they don't have to match.

    3. I guess it could be either Artemis, Juniper (June), or Azalea (Azzy). Azalea/Azzy probably sounds dumb, but I think it's cute. It's a GP name after all I guess though haha(:

    4. Tie between Cillian and Beckett :)

    5. William- Will, Willy, Bill, Billy, Liam.

    6. Evangeline, Cassandra, Naomi, Gabriella. I think Jacqueline is wicked cute!

    7. Jacqueline and Tala (tah-luh). Most names I like are in the 5-8 letter range.

    8. Christopher & Sean :)
