I'm stuck. What makes a really great poem?

I'm in an advanced composition class and I haven't gotten anything higher than a B+. I want an A so bad! I try to add variety to my poetry. I try to keep them clear. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Make it personal. A great poem has to capture someones attention. If you have had something big and tramatizing happen in your life then you should write about it. I just wrote a poem for my english class and got an amazing score. the best in the class because i made it personal. my parents were killed and i wrote about that. here it is:

Why did it happen to me? Why do they get to know my parents and I don’t? remember the smiles that I will never get to see and the laughs that haunt my dreams. And yes I can se pictures and videos and memories, told by those who were lucky enough to be there. But not me. Now you tell me how that’s fair. My mom never gets to help me do my makeup, or help me do my hair. She can never give me advice on boys, or hold me when I cry, and we don’t get the chance to become best friends. I have never hugged my dad higher than his waist and I don’t get to be mad at him when he protects me form the horrors that are in this world. He will never see me get married and I don’t get to be daddy's little girl. That’s not fair. And everywhere I see reminders of them. In the shadows on the ground, surrounded by the sun, and in the stars that speckle the sky. Does anyone realize that every beautiful rain and lightning storm means something completely different to me? A reminder of the day that they were taken form me? and it brings feelings of sorrow and loss and pain and the walls I have built up to block out the memories are washed away by the rain and I get to re live the feelings of pain and loss

But I have realized that the end of every storm brings an incredible rainbow, your just have to turn away from the darkness to see it.

also always try to put a little bit of humor or hope in a sad poem

i hope that this helps you!!!!
