How many of you would describe Obama as a "Right Leaning Moderate"?

The center moved way to the right in the 80s with the 'Reagan Revolution'. Even the Democratic presidents we've had since then, though left of center, were still further to the right than any president before Reagan.

When Clinton was president, Newt Gingrich famously called him 'The most liberal president in American history'. We would expect more from a guy like Gingrich, with a PhD in American history. Republicans use the word 'liberal' for anyone they disagree with or anything they don't like. So all Gingrich really meant was that he really didn't like Clinton. (Which we knew.)

Anyone who calls Obama an extreme liberal, (or a socialist or a communist or a marxist, or a liberal at all) is only showing that he has no idea what these words mean. Obama is farther to the right than any REPUBLICAN president before Reagan. He is where the Republican Party used to be, before the looney right wing took over.

Obama is not a "conservative". I never said that. There's a difference.

I said he's a right-leaning moderate, and it has nothing to do with the Republican delusions of "scandal". Take a look at his record over the past 5 years:

No universal health care. Obamacare is a giveaway to the insurance industry.

Too small of a "stimulus", the majority of which was tax cuts.

Continued the war in Afghanistan.

Continued and expanded the use of drones.

GITMO still open.

Bush, Cheney, Yoo, Rumsfeld are not in prison.

These are not the actions of a "liberal".

Well, you need to consider the source. These folks are full blown leftists. If they're ticked off about anything Obama is doing it is because he's not far enough to the authoritatian left for their tastes. Guys like Chris Matthews aren't ticked off at Obama for the economy or record numbers on welfare, he's ticked off because we're not living behind an Iron Curtain yet!

So, from that perspective...from their perspective...he is a right leaning moderate. And that's kinda scary.

I would not describe him as that. I would describe him as neoconservative hostile to social welfare and liberals, and a fanatic devotee to Reaganomic so-called "free trade" supply side trickle down economics. I have been calling him this since about three or four weeks after his first inaguration (as have the overwhelming majority of liberals). Browse my Q&A to verify my assertions (I don't think it goes all the way back to 2009 because malicious abuse reports caused the suspension of my original account).

Political labels tend to be subjective. To a far left liberal, Obama is a too right wing. To a far right conservative, he is a tree hugger.

Right? Moderate? LMAO

During the 2008 election, my brother, a huge Obama fan, was trying to convince me of that very thing. His words were "moderate Conservative."

I didn't believe him then, and I see no reason to change my opinion over the last 4.5 years.

He is a hair to the right of Karl Marx but slightly left of Lenin.

the more extreme leftists call him that... but it is rare... I have heard it before... usually peta members and occupy folks...
