Journal 1:

My name is Samantha and I grew up in Miami, Florida I have one older brother who is 24 years old and my grandmother from my mother’s side has been living with us since I was 5. I attend NYU as a full time student and this is currently my junior year. In order to pay for tuition and school expenses I have a part time job I’ am an entrepreneur I buy and sell items on eBay, which is going really well and also helps me learn a lot about the business world. Now a little bit about my parents and where I come from. My mother is an orthodontist assistant and my father is self employed he puts granite counter tops and cabinets in homes. Both of my parents are from South America they were born in Ecuador and have known each other since they were young kids. My mother was about 16 years old when she left Ecuador and moved to New York with her mother and brothers. My father left Ecuador when he was about 20 years old and moved to Miami with his mother. After my mother finished college in New York she moved to Miami to be with my father and started working as an orthodontist assistant for Dr. Grossmark. After about 15 years my parents made the decision to move the whole family to West Palm Beach which is where I reside now. A career in dentistry really interest me because when I was small I used to go to work with my mom and was able to experience what it was like being in a office, communicating with patients, taking x-rays, cleaning mouths, putting on braces, making molds of peoples teeth and cleaning instruments, I instantly fell in love with this career. I’m a very creative person so on my spare time I like to knit, cross stitch, or sew. I make blankets, pillows and clothing for my 6 month old niece; I find all of these activities to be very calming and relaxing. I also tutor students in math at my local clubhouse, it’s very rewarding knowing that I’ am helping kids pass their math courses with A’s. I have many goals that I would like to accomplish in life for example pass all my summer classes, do well on my dental exam (DAT) and get into the dental program at Nova. My major goal in life is to become a successful orthodontist who owns their own clinic so I can help people fix and take care of their teeth.
