Question for a book, if you were being chased buy hounds?

Scent markers are rather hard to efface from a human body. Any amount of running would cause sweat production, making it easier for hounds to track. That is, unless you take drastic steps to mask your scent. I would think coating oneself in mud and animal feces, which would hide your scent, would do the trick. Though this may come with some dangers on it's own.

In picking up another creatures scent markers, you may draw attention of predators. <_< Nothing like losing the Nazis only to fall prey to a bear.

By running faster and taking routes that will make it harder for the men to go through.

There was an episode of Mythbusters I watched in which they tested some theories on how to make search dogs lose your scent. There really isn't any. These dogs are really good at what they do.

Run up a tree? Leave a false trail maybe.

Jump in water or mud.
