Do the players or the coaches run plays in the NBA?
Do the coaches just tell them what plays they should run during the game, or do the players need to be able to read the situation themselves to run a play? To know what plays is effective against whatever kind of defense the other team is playing.

Coaches do the plays, but there are players who run plays themselves. I remember Michael Jordan do it when he sees red. But mostly it's the coaches who bark plays at their players.
Hope this helps.

All of the plays are created by the coaches.
It is up to the players to run the play efficiently.
If the play breaks down then the players pretty much go into street ball mode.
Usually point guards run the plays (Unless you're Lebron or Kobe) and may even pick a new play if they see a shift in the defense.
When it comes to closing out games the coaches will draw up a play to get the ball inbounds, but then it is up to that player to create his own shot.
It's really just a mixture of both coaches and players.
Players will usually follow the coaches plays if they have respect for the coach.
You can really tell who respects their coaches and who doesn't by how they run plays.

The players run the coaches system.
The players will run that system every game making subtle changes to it during the game to take advantage of mis-matches and other things.
If a large change needs to occur, the coach will often call a time-out to talk to his players about the changes they need to make.

LOVE this question! I have to guess that it's both, b/c I always see players directing traffic on the floor. Manu does it...Nate does it...lots of others. Coaches use hand signals in the interim while the ball is in play...?

I agree. look at Elton sort and Jason Williams to boot. some everybody is basically anti-DUKE; they don't favor to admit that Duke gamers may be tremendous NBA gamers. the guy who printed said JJ Redick; i'm a hardcore Duke fan. yet, I wasn't awaiting lots out of a 6'4'' shooter. human beings favor to discover an exception and concentrate on it.
