Is Saint Peter guarding the gates of heaven?

There are a lot of stories where I've heard that he was entrusted with the key of heaven.

Is he also the one to welcome you once you died? He was said to ask your name in the gates and he will look up into the book of life. He was also said to have a rooster with him. Are all these true?

    Yes.

    As for the rooster as his symbol: When St. Peter denied Our Lord 3 times, a rooster crowed.

    The Gospels, especially that of John, make clear that Christ Himself is the "gatekeeper".
