Driving highway interstate i-395 from LA to NoCal on memorial day weekend?

I'm hitting the i-395 on memorial day weekend (leaving Friday morning) from Los Angeles up to northern California.

Any recommendation on possible traffic on that particular day ?

Do you recommend to stop somewhere nice ? I was thinking to stop at Mono Lake.

    Mono Lake might not be what you think it is... you should be fine once you get out the big cities -- read that, as out of LA. Get an early start.
