How can David Beckham be a role model?

He is famous for what? His squeaky voice, his freakish tattoos, his socks stuffed in his pants? No, it cannot be his looks or his personality. It must be his football like when he kicked someone and had to be sent off. No, he wasn't that good at football. Maybe it's because he is a wonderful father and husband who only plays away occasionally?

Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to why this seedy looking fellow (without the make up, airbrushing and socks) is worth anything at all?

Perhaps it is because he is married to an ex pop singer who actually couldn't sing but pouted prettily?

Whatever the reason why the media adore him and we are supposed to follow suit may be, I hope someone can enlighten me. Please don't just write that he was a fantastic footballer - there have been masses of them who were and will be far better than him.

Why is this rather seedy middle aged man a role model?

He was a great footballer. I doubt your life is perfect. David Beckham is a role model because he is a talented footballer, and many young people aspire to be him, or at least like him. Maybe because of all the charity events he is involved in... A role model, doesn't mean they do everything right, it just means they are looked up to, many young girls have Katie Price as a role model, she may have had loads of plastic surgery and has been portrayed by the media to be a bad person, but anyone who looks up to someone has a reason.

Me? My role model is Robbie Williams, in his past he took drugs and drank a lot, but now he's changed and is a brilliant entertainer. Don't judge people by their past.

Is this the Cheryl Cole that assorted the clock-room attendant And the David Beckham that is covered in tattoos and wanted to fight someone in the crowd at a match for LA Galaxy. Roll model or should we just say. Who has the most money in the bank. A roll model should be like someone that gets up and drives the first bus or train out the garage every morning or someone that helps the community for one reward. Not some plastic pop star.

This attack on the former England captain is disgraceful. He was a fantastic football player, he played for some of the best teams in club football and stepped up to fire us in to the 2002 World Cup when we were seconds from crashing out. He led us with pride and done a great service to English football and the sport in general. He was instrumental in helping to bring the 2012 Olympic Games to London and played at the highest level until the age of 38 which meant his lifestyle was good and he took care of his body.

But haters will hate regardless so I'm sure I am writing for my own benefit here.

Jealousy & envy will not get you anywhere. He was not the greatest footballer and what of it. She was not the greatest singer & what of it. They started out with nothing like most of us. They have made a good life for themselves. They are role models in the sense people look at them and think I can make a life for myself. I do not have to work on a production line in a factory all my life. I do not have to wait on people at a super market checkout keeping an eye on the specials so I can save a few quid on the weekly shopping. The vast majority of us end in mind numbing jobs & it is nice to see regular people break out of it now & again.

I'm not really interested in Posh and Becks but I don't think they're that bad. Michael Parkinson said he thinks the public have a wrong perception of them, behind the scenes they're nice people, quite sensible and not superficial (they obviously care a lot about their family and have done their bit for charity).

    - The ridiculous amounts of charity work he has done.

    - Introducing sport to many people, including myself.

    - This season at PSG, his income went directly to charity.

    - He's a legend in the name of football.

    - He supports many companies, e.g. Pepsi.

    - Many women find him extremely good looking.

    - Victoria is also extremely famous.

    - Making disabled kids dreams of meeting him come true.

    - THAT FREE KICK AGAINST GREECE. He sweated blood for England that day, gaining respect of all England fans after his kicking incident.
