Windows 7 Constantly Freezing?

I've had Windows 7 on my laptop for about 8 months now and up until the last few weeks have had no problems. Recently my computer freezes and then crashes randomly every 5 mins. I've tried updating all my software, checked for malwares and viruses and defragmented my drives. The problem is still there. Any suggestions?

"Recently my computer freezes and then crashes randomly every 5 mins." doesn't tell us anything useable.

Windows 7 almost always shows an Error Message with a Hexadecimal Error Code. So. please tell us EXACTLY what the Error Message says, word for word, and give us the 8 digit Error code (that looks like this: 0x12345A2F).

Then, maybe we can try to help you isolate the bad Windows Update, or flaky Device Driver that's causing the REAL problem.

TIP: Unless you have pets that shed fur by the bushel basket full, daily, it's not likely a cooling problem, if your PC has run well for 8 months.

    Hello,

Your problem may be several things. So allow me to give you a list of possibilities.

1 Dust, as suggested. Spray a can of air in it to see if any comes out. Mostly around your fans.

    2. Since you checked for viruses, check to see if any of the updates you might have done is the problem, did you recently update any drivers, like the videocard chip or hardware devices. This may cause you to have your freezes.

    3. Do you receive any error messages when it crashes. Try to get a print screen of that message and google it.

    4. What programs do you have running in the background that you can clear out? Try and see if you have a lot of memory hogs. i.e. your antivirus software, or downloaded toolbars, or basic crapware may be the culprit.

The answer is not so simple but takes a lot of time to figure it out. You may have to take it to a geek squad or a reliable computer shop to help you.

It could be simply dust inside causing overheating and locking up. Desktops are easy to check for dust accumulation, laptops, not as easy.
