Dvd not working dell inspiron?

My name is Gautam and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.

You may try booting the system from the bootable disc (like Operating system disc or dell drivers & utilities disc) to check the optical drive functionality outside windows environment. You may perform the steps mentioned below to.

1. Put bootable disc & turn off your laptop.

2. Turn on the laptop then press F12 at dell logo, go to boot menu and choose boot from CD/DVD and check if it’s booting.

If system able to boot it means optical drive able to read the disc. You may try the steps mentioned in the link below to resolve the issue.

It happens after some years,its life is over,you have to give it for repair,thats the only solution.

Next time dont directly run dvds and cds on the dvd drive and watch movie,copy the movie to hard drive and watch it-less work for dvd drives,you follow this then the dvd drive will last atleast 6yrs

If it doesnt read DVD disks the drive has gone faulty. That sometimes happens even if it can still read cds.

a dvd rom is a cd or dvd with info on it you cant erase, you mean a disk drive

may be you do not have dvd reader...
