Which foreign language should I learn as an Air hostess aspirant?

Hi, I am an aspirant Air hostess. I will be joining the leading Aviation Training Institute - Frankfinn this July.

I have heard that candidates who wish to apply or work for an international airlines should know one foreign language at-least.

My question is, How much is this true? How do I know which language should I learn? Do I have to learn the language in-depth like write, speak & read?

Please guide me how do I proceed? I have just one year to prepare myself. I am really good at self learning so learning from Books, YouTube & research.. I wont mind!

Looking forward for a proper help & guidance . Thanks in Advance! :)

as an ex flight attendant I will surely tell you that After English, there are only two languages that can get you a place at the best airlines in the world French and Arabic. Spanish is a plus if you know it. German and Chinese aren't really seen as an advantage. even though whatever extra language you know other than English will be considered a boost to you resume when applying. You don't really have to master the language you aren't becoming an interpreter here. If French, B2 level would be ok. If Arabic, you just need to learn how to speak it, learning its alphabets isn't necessary as the job is all about communication and self presentation. An other advice, be veeeery careful with the scars, if you are a girl who loves outings and adventurous sports, make sure you don't get hurt, they really scrutinize the arms and face and sometimes a concealer is just not enough.

Probably. The UK is in Europe, so flights would require you to be able to speak in the language of the country you're going to, especially since you're going to be in that country to fly back to the UK. Well, I don't know the specifics but you won't only have English speaking passengers. Going back and forth from France and the USA, all the air hostesses were able to speak English and French from what I could see/hear especially when they make announcements. They said the same thing in both languages. In Paris, just about everyone who worked at Charles de Gaulle was able to speak English as well, even if it wasn't their native language which I could tell.

    Shelly,

Give French or German a try... they are some of the easiest to learn and their script is English similar (mostly) but pronounced differently. Should you choose to learn Spanish, then the language spoken by people from Latin America also is similar. Honestly, it all depends on which international airline you wish to apply for.

Learning simple words on hospitality like salutation, welcome, farewell etc. will equally help initially but not for long!

Technical language skills is also important because you might have to make announcements & most importantly assist in damage control during an incident. Read & Write is essential for every language because of the passenger aid your work demands.

I suggest you choose one language & gain mastery over it. Geothe Instituit tutors German, Allaince Francaise for French really help!

    Good Luck!

English: Britain, USA, Canada, Australia, India and in almost 45 other countries the official language is English.

German: Germany, Austria, Switzerland primarily. Speaking German is also useful in the Scandinavian countries.

French: France, Switzerland and 31 other countries where it is the official language.

Spanish: Spain and most of the countries in South and Central America. Knowledge of Spanish also helps in Portugal and Italy.

    Japanese: Japan

    Chinese: China

    Korean: Korea

    Russian: USSR

    Arabic: Middle East

    Urdu: Pakistan, India.

English is the universally accepted language with German and Spanish following behind.

All inter-national air lines are using English as a first language to communicate with the passengers. But some airlines like French airways are giving importance to their national language, But it is better to have full knowledge in English and confidence in conversations, Many institutions are conducting english speaking course in all the leading cities. You can utilise their services. You may visit talkenglish.com for further reference

Since you want to be an air hostess, you should be able to learn and Speak 2 languages (excluding english) fluently in order to develop good interpersonal skills.

I suggest that you learn Spanish and German language as they both can be learnt in a span of 12months as you mentioned above...(french and italian take time to master)

You take a 100 pages german book(story book, magazine, etc) and another english version of the same book..read 1 page german version then read the same page of english version for about 3 days....then read 5 pages of german version and compare those to the english version...gradually increase your speed....

Note:Speak loudly when you read both versions and use a voice recorder to note difficult words and phrases. You'll master both languages really fast.(5 months)

if you already know a foreign language such as Arabic, then spend time on learning that language first and then learn another language.
