If religion never existed?

If religion never existed would we be less technological and have less knowledge. Although I am not religious i think that if religion never existed we would not have the same amount of technology and knowledge as we have today.

Religion motivated people to create new things and explore new lands, religion also creates war and war creates technological advancements in a number of things e.g. Surgery, weapons, transport, food supply

Do you agree?

Actually, religion suppressed science for ages so without religion we would be way more advanced than we are now.

No, I do not agree. Basic human curiosity is part of what has driven us. New lands were explored when the old ones got too crowded. We owe farming technology to the discovery of fermented wheat, a.k.a. beer, which the Church would definitely NOT approve. I agree that religion may have had a part in the development of war technology, but do you really want to flaunt that? And besides, humans have always had things to fight about: territory, food, women, etc. It is nothing new.

But it's funny you bring up medicine. Before the church started burning and hanging them, witches were the first doctors.

Well I have to agree with you at least partially. Religion is a great way to start wars & wars are one of the major reasons for human technological advancement. We'd probably still develop without war but without the same amount of intensity. Of course if religion wasn't around we could easily find something else to fight over, racism , nationalism, the economy, health care, etc.

Just because we have technology, what makes us think we're advanced.

Industrialism and warfare has also created much self destruction.

It's a proven fact that humanity has lost many ancient technologies too.

    Timothy Chapter 6:

20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

In Hinduism: Chapter 10. The Opulence of the Absolute.

Of all creations I am the beginning and the end and also the middle, O Arjuna. Of all sciences I am the spiritual science of the self, and among logicians I am the conclusive truth.

I disagree, if religion never existed I believe we would be more technology advanced, after all over history how many times have scientists and historians etc had to 'be quite' because religion didn't like what was being mentioned?

I 100% disagree on this guy above me (NOT YOU)

"Religion tends to stifle creativity and teaches people to accept things unquestioningly. Think about it, with religion when someone is sick, you're supposed to pray for them. Without religion, you look for a cure. And with science in general, if you see something you don't understand the religious answer is "God did it" or "God wanted it that way" whereas the scientific method pursues understanding how and why certain things happen."

This rubbish piece of quote is totally ignorants. Religion doesn't accept things unquestioningly, what are you talking ABOUT? And this guy says "Think about it, with religion when someone is sick, you're supposed to pray for them. Without religion, you look for a cure"

What is this guy THINKING??, A RELIGIOUS DOES GO TO A DOCTOR TO LOOK FOR CURE. They need to do this, as for praying to God, they will only pray to God if there is risk of death, and a doctor is operating, so they will pray to God.

"And with science in general, if you see something you don't understand the religious answer is "God did it" or "God wanted it that way" whereas the scientific method pursues understanding how and why certain things happen."

I never say this if I didn't understand, I would seek and want to learn and have knowledge about this, but I don't trust everything on science, and it is pretty complicated to explain, however Science and religion is different, there is no connection with it and there is no comparing it, but this guy quotes is just clearly dislike religion and he is so WRONG..

Human curiosity lead to techonology. Religion slowed down our advancements, take Galileo from example.

    Islam introduced science to Europe,

    correct

  • The likliest scenarios are that we would have destroyed ourselves. If not by all the wars driven by hate, greed, and ego, then certianly by the time we had created the atomic bomb. Without the lessons of love that God gave the world, it's very likely this world would be a blackened cinder by now, with no life at all.
