Considering they are not equipped, trained, nor designed to perform that mission, don't have those responsibilities, and aren't under the appropriate chain of command...no.

1. Any infantry unit that has been trained to conduct an air assault (which in the US is literally every infantry unit we have) could've "handled it." It was not a particularly remarkable raid other than who the target was, and the fact it was in a country we weren't supposed to have boots on the ground in.
2. Totally wrong. Force Recon is not a special operations force, but like the actual SOFs, they don't WANT to be in the spotlight... being out of the spotlight is part of the whole point of even having special operations units and the absolute last thing they want is public scrutiny and political attenion. In fact, you will rarely hear about them unless something really bad happens (ie: Mogadishu, Operation Red Wings, the Chinook crash, etc).

Why would they? Their main role is reconnaissance, yes they're capable of doing the raid as any other SOC and SOF but that isn't their role. The Marine Corps is still new to the SOF community also so I doubt they would let MARSOC perform such a critical mission. Also publicity is not a good thing when it comes to Special Operations.

Of course not. The Navy SEALs and Delta Force are the best of the best. No one is better than them. Period.

Hell no!
You send in the troops who are best trained for those types of missions.
