Does anybody know about Salient Pole Rotors?

Hey, can anyone give me a little information on Salient Pole Rotors? I'm stuck for what I can write about them.

Thanks!

Salient means "sticking out" or "prominent". The use of salient poles can make it simpler to wind the rotor field winding but the configuration is not so well suited to take high centrifugal loadings and is therefore restricted to (in the case of power generators at least) to lower speed machines with six or more poles.

Salient pole rotor has large number of projected poles which are mounted on a magnetic wheel.
