What happened to my daisies?

So, I bought several pots of daisies and planted them the other day. They looked fine. The next day I added mulch and they looked great for another day. Then, they all appear to have snapped stems. They aren't completely snapped off, but they all have a weak spot in the stem that looks like someone just snapped them. What could have caused this? I don't have a green thumb at all and am disappointed these didn't last longer then a few days. Help!

The damage is done, but don't think that means they're dead. You'll probably never know. It could be bugs, critters, a storm, mulched too close, or bad daises.

BUT daisies last all summer. (Gerber daises--all summer. Daisy daisies are perennials.) Cut the stems and wait. More will come, unless it was an internal virus/oddball mutation. The chances of that being the cause are about the chances of you winning the three number lottery tonight--better odds than winning the mega-lottery, but still not likely.

You didn't happen to be that one ticket holder for the mega-lottery out of Florida by any chance? If you are, then don't worry about the daisies anyway. Who is taking care of them while you're on the around-the-world cruise all summer. lol (This last paragraph was just kidding around.)

You're gonna want to inspect those stems carefully... There are weevils that bite the stems, suck some juice out and ruin the flowers for everyone else... there could also be caterpillars living inside those stems... I suspect the first... nothing you can do... now... the weevil already left.
