I need help with Outlook please! 10 points!?
Right, so I work in a company that use's a domain, AD, exchange server etc. and each user in the company is set up with their own account and mailbox for Outlook. However, I am having problems connecting this one user to the exchange server in Outlook.
This user is using Windows XP Professional and Office 2007 with Outlook. They have an active user account in the AD and an Outlook account that is working. Both have been tested and are online. Their Outlook was originally working until we had to reinstall XP on the Laptop (they are using a laptop connected through ethernet with a static IP).
Now after setting up the Outlook settings (which are exactly the same as every other user) we get this message:
The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unabailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.
Can anyone help with this issue please? We are very desperate and I will keep checking my answers and editing the info if you want additional info. Really need some help please, 10 point :) Thanks!
I have tried the Regedit method but after Outlook or 12.0 there is no RPC option? I may try another version of Office to make sure. The outlook account works fine, I have even tried another outlook account on the laptop and it still wont connect. Its the connection between the laptop and the exchange server, even though it is connected to the domain and works with the internet and mapped drives?
It has SP3, firewall disabled and antivirus is the company av

If you read the whole thing you'll see a 'FIX IT' file that will do it for you, or it tells you steps to do it yourself.
This is where Joseph went so it must be good?
I used to have this trouble, for me it was POP3 and IMAP settings. Either round the wrong way or the correct port was not set.

Form your description, I understand that you got the error “The action cannot be completed. The Connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. outlook must be online or connected to complete this action” when you try to log in with Outlook. For this issue, I want to clarify the following information before we go further:
1. Is there any other person got the same issue with you?
2. What is protocol you used on your Outlook, RPC over HTTP or any other protocol?
a. If you use RPC over HTTP, I suggest you use this tool to do a test, If there is any error, please paste here in your next post.
Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer

b. If you are using MAPI or any other protocols, please check the firewall setting on your computer, disable firewall and anti-virus software to have a try.
3. As you can sign into via OWA, this may problem on your Outlook. Please recreate the profile to have a try.
IF THAT DOES NOT WORK TRY THIS!!
Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Office\12.0\Outlook\RPC
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type DefConnectOpts, and then press ENTER.
Right-click DefConnectOpts, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor.

"they are using a laptop connected through ethernet with a static IP ... I have even tried another outlook account on the laptop and it still wont connect. Its the connection between the laptop and the exchange server".
do the other systems have static ips too? maybe try changing this laptop's ip to a different one or have it use dhcp. can you ping or telnet 110 to the exchange server from the laptop?

you sure you are using the correct outlook? make sure you are. go to Microsoft and download the new crap they have, because word 7 has it own outlook, so you may be using that one or your connection maybe using it. OUTLOOK is now the stupid ugly worthless email. make sure you both know this in order to connect.
