why is it windier at the coast?

Please explain how wind works at the coast for it to be so windy there??

    Simply, winds have nothing to block them when crossing open water. Since there is nothing at ground level to block the wind, it does not moderate until it gets further inland.

    Prevailing winds. But yeah basically theres nothing to block the winds by the coast and so therfore it is more windy.

    Water moving about causes wind disturbances.
