How did women contribute to war effort and how were they affected by the worldwide conflict?

    Do you mean WW2? Women were in the services, my mother was a Wren for instance (women's royal navy). She was a telephonist, the job she had been going in civilian life before the war. women also served as clerks, drivers, mechanics, etc. there were many women nurses too.

    Women worked in munitions and in other factories. They took over jobs in farming and forestry, on the railways and buses, in offices and banks, while men were away.

    women who were not in paid employment did volunteer jobs like serving in canteens etc.

    Women at home had to cope with rationing, making small amounts of food go as far as possible, people were encouraged to grow their own vegetables, and tried to find substitutes for items that were scarce. new clothes were hard to come by, and women were urged to 'make do and mend'.

    You could teach a whole course just on women's role in BOTH world war 1 and world war two.
