Should America give credence to the John Q. Adams' foreign policy advice?

John Quincy Adams's 4th of July Address - 1821

http://www.presidentialrhetoric.com/historicspeech...

~~~
In his speech, he warns America against meddling in European affairs, his philosophy was that Europe will always be in turmoil because it always has been in turmoil; the only way for us to insulate ourselves was to not associate with them, even France who several years prior helped in our Revolution. Additionally, he warns that America should not go searching for Monsters to destroy.
Obviously, we have ignored his advice and it doesn't look like its working out too well for us.
I see the pros here, a lot of them. A con would have been WW2 when our hand was forced, we had no choice - other cons concern current security.
We have been chasing "monsters" around the entire world, so that part was ignored as well.
Is isolationism the answer? If we had maintained isolationism through the post-WW2 world, would these problems still be here?
    Interesting but generarions see changes in whom oure friends and foes are, so advice from centuries ago is really not relevent.
