Why doesn't Indy car have green white checkered finishes?
I like Tony Kanaan, but races should not finish under caution, especially not the biggest race of the year.

I completely agree with you!
They race for almost 500 miles and then because someone hits the wall with 2 laps to go, they parade around to the finish line. Pretty anti-climatic end when it was all set up for a great finish between the top 4 cars.
Stock cars do endings a lot better.
But, I'm happy that Tony Kanaan finally won the 500. It just would have made it better if he won racing to the end.

I've never been a fan of GWC, because I don't think it actually adds that much. You can't recreate the situation that existed when the caution came out, so someone is going to get an advantage that they wouldn't have had otherwise.
The other thing is that two laps really boils down to whoever gets the better restart is probably going to win. Plus, since you've rebunched the field, and they all know they have one shot to get as much as they can, it leads to a lot of stupid moves; look at how many times they have to do more than one attempt at a GWC, or how often there's a wreck on the last lap--in which case, you still end up with the race ending under caution.
If the race is 500 miles, then it's 500 miles--not "500 miles plus maybe some more".

Because INDYCAR is run by purists. The winner of the 500-mile race is whoever leads after 500 miles, regardless of whatever circumstance those last 2.5 miles were run.
Isn't it more fair to end a 500-mile race after 500 miles rather than extend it until it makes for better TV?
It's not exciting, but sometimes sporting events don't have exciting finishes. Even the Super Bowl can end with a QB taking a knee.

What the above answer said. It's a 500 mile race. If that means that there's a caution at the 500 mile mark, so be it.
It's only NASCAR that doesn't have races end under caution. Any other top level series pretty well anywhere in the world has no GWC-like rule.

The outcome would have been the same Tony would have got passed on 199 and he would have went back in front on 200. It was Kanaans time to shine. Glad he finally got him one!

so a techniques as i comprehend, there became no warning. i'm able to't undergo in ideas seeing if the lighting fixtures went on or no longer, yet there became on no account a warning thrown. So there is not any risk that it's going to be reversed--it became the final lap and there became no warning, so Wheldon won.

BECAUSE -
* Indy cars get very poor gas mileage, comparatively small gas tanks, and teams figure their mileage backwards from the end of the race. Too many cars would have to pit for gas, and some car that was in 12th place could end up winning.
* Why should somebody have to change their strategy, or run extra laps, because somebody else couldn't finish the race because they crashed.
* There's no good reason to do so.

The Indycar and especially F1 executives are too stupid and close-minded to what the idea of finishing a race under green no matter what. There is no GOOD reason we shouldn't see a race finish under green, no matter what(excluding rain). Fans pay to see racing. Fans pay to see a great race. A great race can be ruined with a caution-based finish. We want to see a battle to the last lap. A fair battle to the finish, not a fluke.

Next year just put every body's name in a hat and just draw the winner. It would be about exciting as watching them get the checkered flag doing 50 MPH behind the pace car. A caution should never determine a race winner. They should have to earn it.
