He brings up his ex every day?

We've been going out for almost 6 months now, we've both told each other all about our past relationships etc, he's only had one other girlfriend and he brings her up almost every single day.

It's always negative though, I mean he only ever brings up the things he didn't like about her, or stuff she did in their relationship that annoyed him and such. But it really bothers me, I only noticed it a while ago and I thought 'hm, he mentions her a lot' so I basically made a game of it, and now every time I'm with him I wait for him to bring her up, just to see how many days he can go without mentioning her once.

Well he didn't mention her yesterday for the first time in a few weeks but he brought her up again today. Again it's always negative stuff, but it still really annoys me, I mean is he comparing her to me or is he just making strange casual conversation?

He is comparing you to hear in some way or fashion.  Problem is that it hurts you and you think it is mixed signals.  Talking about his ex almost everyday usually means he still has some kind of feeling for her and he is trying to justify them in his mind.  A negative point of view usually means he thinks highly of her and is trying to knock her down because they are not together.  I think that if his actions are not towards you and he gets distance from you, you have a problem.  Otherwise, it is a phase he is going through and so far you have not won over his heart.  Sorry.
