Can a person learn to draw and paint?

I want to take some vacation courses, and I have considered art classes. But I draw and paint horribly. Even my handwriting is pretty awful. But if I take patience and dedication, I can say things come up better. Even though my handwriting is pretty bad, I do have an artistic side. I can play guitar, magnificently. I learned to play by myself in a very short time. I am also learning to play (again, by myself) piano, and I can grasp a little bit of Fur Elise. Plus, I am very smart and creative.

Some friends have the natural ability to draw since they were little. Can I draw as good as they can from learning? At least with a lot of practice? I am still a young teenager.

Thank you :)

Update:

I have a burning desire for art and for learning a lot of things, including painting and drawing.

    Yes!

Drawing and painting are more technical skills than any thing. Some people have more of natural inclination to drawing than others but any person of reasonable intelligence willing to put in the time and work can learn. Getting good and staying good requires daily practice. Same with handwriting. I improved my cursive by doing daily exercises. I recommend going down to the library and get some books on beginning drawing. Go though them patiently and practice.

    Good luck

    Yes you can learn HOW.

That does not mean you will EVER be any good at it.

Learning the technical skills of how to draw is no guarantee that you have the innate artistic ability to create art, even if you learn how to do photo realistic drawings of technical excellence.

Not everyone can or is meant to be an artist.

And wishing it won't make it so.

If you are so creative as you claim, then you certainly should be able to create without drawing. Collage, sculpture, photography, cooking, music, mosaics, wood carving, beadwork, etc, etc, etc.

Why do you feel you have to learn to draw NOW, when you have evidently displayed NO previous talent or skill, by your own words?

Yes, you can learn to draw as good as your friends.

No you will NEVER be a super drawing artist. Young teenager is already too old. Unless you are willing to devote yourself entirely to NOTHING but mastering drawing. NOTHING else. Those days are gone since the 1800s...

Learn NOW that you will not, nor SHOULD not ever be like all your friends. Learn to enjoy similarities, but more importantly, learn to treasure NOT being a clone of your friends.

Yes no artist even the ones that have confirmed ability didnt have got to observe, each person learns through praticing the extra you do some thing the easyer it gets considering you in finding your possess means of doing it that might be referred to as your form or artistic flair so mabe basic then add detail slowly on top of that and hold doing the same drawing time and again till it improves and thenyou can evaluate

Yeah, you can definitely learn to paint and draw if you really want to. My friends are also very talented. I took a drawing class and I've gotten a lot better than I was when I was younger.
