Short sight. Will the power reduce if you don't use spectacles?
Hi, I am a short sighted person with a power of around -6. My dad also was sufering from the same problem with ahigher power of around -6.5, but after his college days he strictly avoided usng spectacles and managed with just his eyes. When recently we checked his eyesight it has reduced to -2. How dd this happen? Is it beause he stopped wearing glasses and his eyes adjusted to the vision? Please advice.

No. Only surgery will make you less nearsighted.
I don't believe your father's story. If his refractive error really was -6.5 diopters, that means that anything more than 15 centimeters away would have been blurry. He would not have survived school without corrective lenses.
The only way that he could have truly changed his refractive error that much is if the lens of his eye significantly changed its shape (which is what happens in laser surgery) or if his eyeball got significantly smaller.
There are muscles around the lens of the eye called ciliary muscles that can temporarily change the shape of the eye, which is how we are able to focus far and close, but these muscles squeeze the lens in the wrong direction to help someone who is nearsighted. No amount of exercise of these muscles would change that.
What really happened? One of the exams, or his memory of the old exam, is wrong.

Yes. If you go without glasses, the power you need will gradually be reduced. The key to it is getting rid of your glasses. It really takes dedication for these changes to occur.
If you are a student, ask for a seat near the front of the classroom so you won't have to walk as far when you go up to see the board. As far as transportation is concerned, you won't be able to take a bus because you won't know where to get off. You should be able to read really well though writing could be a problem. You will quickly learn to recognize people by their voices alone. Studies have shown that television viewed at 8 inches is just as safe as television viewed at longer distances. As soon as your vision stabelizes, you can ask the state for your driver's license back.

Good question! My vision has improved since college too. I started wearing glasses in grad school and had a -1.25 prescription for both eyes. 4 1/2 year later, it has been weakened twice and is now -0.50 for both eyes, I actually always wanted glasses and wear mine all of the time but it has improved since college. I hope that you find the answer that you are looking for. Good luck!

You're power is too high you can start being blind in a few years time if you don't use glasses.
I suggest you to go for Lasik surgery if you are 21 or older.

Use spectacle. Do Shirshasan. Yr dad's number may be given wrong at that time. One of my friend also got number of -3.5 instead of -1.25. Even she was wearing -3.5, she was looking small. That is why number rechecked.

hi, you should try yoga to reduce your spectacles power, but for better results do yoga daily & early in the morning.

If you don't wear glasses, you'll just have blurry vision. It doesn't magically improve.
