what do we call a letter attribute that determine weather its is incoming or outgoing
e. g. we call human attribute to determine weather it's a he or a she by ['sex','gender']

I see your dilemma there, whether a letter is incoming or outgoing....Well, letters are simillar to nails & screws, like if a nail/screw is pointed to south wall then that nail/screw is for the south wall, if its pointing to opposite wall, then that nail/screw is for the opposite wall. Same with letters, if they are pointing inward then they are 'incoming letters', if they are pointing outward, then they are 'outgoing letters'.
