Can I get in trouble for trespassing?

Well there's this shortcut on my friends street (not his house) to the local school/church. There's not a

"No trespassing sign" even though it is private property of one of the homeowners.

You can absolutely get in trouble for trespassing, and like anything else, depending on how you handle getting caught will determine your consequence. However, every state has specific laws on trespassing. It is a misdemeanor with different classes with the biggest penalties reserved for trespassing on a school or church. Fines of up to 1000.00 and up to 1 yr in jail-depending on State.

If the owner wants to be anal about it you can. Its his property and you know it, so technically it is trespassing. Most people don't have a problem with it, and if they do they will tell you about it before they get the police involved. If you are that worried about it take the long way to avoid trouble.

It's not trespassing unless there is some sort of resistance. If you cross through it and they ask you to stop yet you keep crossing there, then it is tresspassing. If they post signs and you cross in there it is trespass. If neither signs nor verbal resistance are there then you aren't tresspassing.

Probably not unless there is a sign or you are asked by the owner to stay off the property.

If the property owner wants to push it, yes. Funny thing about signs, the people who say there aren't any signs would ignore them if there were.
