How do people live without video games?

I am 19 and I have always played video games as a source of entertainment in my life. Recently I have been told to Delete my video games because they were a massive waste of time. But then I thought to myself: how do people live with themselves or entertain themselves? To me, reading a book or watching tv is way to old fashioned. I like to have an open mind on new forms of entertainment and that includes video games. But for some reason, I find people that don't really play video games that much to be rather boring individuals. I wonder, where will technology be today if video games never existed if they were existed? VGs are just a natural part of my life as much as books, movies, and television.

Video Games are NOT a wast of time. In fact video games are much more interactive and social and take a lot of skill compared to reading a book or watching TV. I would say watching TV is a huge wast of time because theres nothing even good on. Like when my mom tells me to stop playing video games yet she watches reality TV what a wast.

As long as you don't become an obese nerd who sits at his computer screen for 8 hours a day playing games then you are fine.

I'm an adult and play tons of games yet I have a sold job, hot girlfriend, and do lots of different activities.

They went outside and lived a little. People in the past didnt have electronics like we have today, so they made use of what they had in their time. For example they read books, went outside, hung out with their buds, etc. And yes we've had the tv, phone, and radio in the past but not things like the ipad or Xbox 360s. Something might come up in the future that we'll never get to experience because its unknown what we'll have, so thus we enjoy the present and what we have now. And yes video games is a waste of time as it gets you nowhere if you have goals in your life.

Although I'm an avid gamer, I disagree with you on many accounts. First of all, games. Games are a way of emulating accomplishments that we would be making in real life, I'm passionate about games, but people shouldn't have their eyes set on a life devoted to games. I myself want to achieve more in life, and it's impossible to advance in a game. Next, Video Games as entertainment. A story is a good story no matter how it's delivered, as long as it is a good story. A book can contain a good story, a movie can have a good story, a game can have a good story, but if all forms of storytelling were restricted to games, then a lot of good stories wouldn't get out there. A story has to be structured in a way to fit in a video game, which means the story has to cooperate with gameplay. To Kill a Mocking Bird, lovely story that it is, would be the shittiest game on the planet. People have different tastes in genres, action, adventure, romance, drama, comedy, not all of these genres can be used to make games, and seeing how much more money and effort goes into games to put out their stories, it's the least practical and most restricted way to deliver. And people who don't play video games you find boring, that's simply because people who share your interests you tend to find more entertaining.

In Third World countries, most males 11+ work on farms or carry water from wells back to their village. The women often weave or cook. In North Korea, most men are dratted into the military (or join voluntarily so they don't starve). In Europe, people normally walk from place to place instead of driving, so that takes up time as well.

America, with our large unemployed population, has a lot of time on it's hands. I love CoD more than the next guy, but maybe if more guys actually joined the army, America would be a better place.

I think who ever says video games are a waste of time and are worthless are ignorant. I use them to relax. Just like people who use food, tv, sleep, or reading to relax. Without them I probably would be a stressed out freak. Now with Online modes video games are also used to socialize with friends and new people.

Just because someone doesn't play games, doesn't mean that they're boring individuals. I've actually noticed that most people who play games all the time are usually socially awkward piles of flesh that take up space in their parent's basement. However, I'm not insulting gamers as a whole. I'm just insulting gaming addicts. If I was to insult fans of video games in general, I might as well just shoot myself in the foot.

I think you are alone in your view, I am 20 and love books and tv. Personal preference i guess.

There are many things to do besides gaming:

    Art

    Bungee jumping

    Boxing

    Playing an instrument

    Socialising with friends

Try some extreme sports. Like Rick climbing, sky diving, sailing, diving. Those are valid things to do, ad they are thrilling.

Try weaning yourself off of video games. It sounds like you're addicted to them. Still play them, don't stop. But don't act as if you can't live without them.

People lived by working, being around those they love, EXPLORING THE WORLD, researching new ideas or philosophies, they read, they found a tire and rolled it down a hill.

They used their imagination, and it's that imagination that got us here today.

    I know I couldn't live without them.
