car fuel gauge problem?
I have a 2003 buick century.
The fuel gauge is malfunctioning.
when I start the car, the gauge would correctly show how much gas I have in the gas tank, but then the meter would go all the way to the right (showing full tank).
Can someone tell me what potential problems am I looking at?

That's either a short to ground, or open on the fuel sender wire.
Not too sure on a 2003, but most GM's prior had a few wires running to the tank, and right near it there would be a connector. Disconnect, find out which wire is for the gauge, and with key on, ground it, then open the circuit. Gauge should peg full and peg empty with one test, then the other. If it doesn't, problem is forward of the tank. If it responds right, then the problem is between the connector and the sending unit.
Often the tank ground is an issue, but same ground for tank and fuel pump, so both wouldn't work.
