Is "once upon a Golfmans growbag" a good way to start a story?

    Cute, if you are going for a certain fairy-tale taste. The only non-children's novel I can think of that starts with "Once upon a ...." is James Herbert's Once...

    It actually starts;

    Once....

    [next page]

    ...upon...

    [next page]

    ...a...

    [next page]

    ...death, when life for etc

    Now, he was intending a certain horror meets fairy-tale story, so his start makes sense and fits nicely.

    I think it's a marvelous way to begin a story. It makes you want to know more about the 'mystery' that is implied, so you will want to read the story.
