Overheating Laptop question?
My laptop has been overheating recently and It usually last around a hour or hour and a half before shutting down. Nothing is in the way of the air vents and I have it on a table. It is connected to a monitor as well so I run dual screen with it. I have had this laptop for almost 3 years and also I was also wondering if a high CPU usage also affects it because I check it and it goes from 40 to 100 in a matter of seconds. I only run firefox and also a program like word, powerpoint, excel for school. That is about all.

Yes a high CPU does affect the temperature because the higher the CPU the harder the computer must work, but a high CPU would be if it stays on 100 for long periods of time. You should try cleaning the vents if you can take it apart and clean the fan fully if you're not comfortable doing that just stick to airing the vents. Their are many reasons a computer may overheat but the most probable one is just the computer needing to breath. A few things to check- does the fan work/ is it working to much (stays on as long as the laptop is on) if either of these happen your laptop NEEDS to be aired so the fan can work properly, keep an eye on your CPU and if it jumps up and down that is normal just make sure it doesn't stay at 100. That's all I can think of hope that helps and good luck.

The problem could be spyware, or a nonresponding program. Did you check the process section of the task manager? Firefox could be stuck in a loop.
